One Last, Glorious Look Around the Place

Posted by jetsstaff on January 7, 2010 – 3:00 pm

The weather outside was indeed frightful Sunday night as our beloved New York Jets closed out their 26-year run off-Broadway at the Meadowlands. But like the song says, inside it was just delightful. The popsicle-friendly weather did little to dampen the spirits of the full house, or the team, as a crisp 37-0 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals meant a playoff berth and, just as important, the Green & White were able to close out the place in style.

From a pregame tour of our new home, the New Meadowlands Stadium, with Jets greats recent and vintage, to the bombastic introductions, it was a night of fireworks and fun. The halftime ceremony was one for the ages, with players from each year of our tenure charging upfield from the tunnel to thunderous applause.

You know the story of what took place between the whistles. Any night that ends with Kerry Rhodes and Mark Sanchez giving coach Rex Ryan a Gatorade bath has got to be good, no? For an encore, the entire team took a victory lap that is surely among the greatest memories at the stadium.

I’ve gathered up my favorite shots from that electric night, with two assists — Henry O’s dramatic shot of Mark Sanchez before the intros and Lee Weisman’s heroic stadium shot. Hope you like them all. If home is where the heart is, then the Meadowlands will always be with us.

Al, I hated to walk out of that building last week. I really liked that place which i always called The Meadowlands. I never called it blank Stadium. Who knows maybe we still have a Jets/Ravens AFC Championship Game to play there. But the new stadium should be great and it will be the start of making new memories and winning some Championships. GO JETS!!!!

Unfortunately it will not be a new beginning to many fans who cant afford the PSLs. We support this team through good & bad, mostly bad, and than were slapped in the face. I loved my covered seats, never got wet. I had 3 tickets since 64. Even went to Titan games at the old Polo Grounds. Wish the team all the luck in the world. will still support them. But ownership can kiss my you know what.

Can we for once prove all the haters wrong. It’s to the point where our own radio personalities make fun of us. I know this team can win. Go Jets!!!!!!!!

I have just one question about this new stadium………..Does it have a roof on it? Maybe a sliding roof? If it doesn’t I think that they need get their money back. Even here in Arizona we are not that dumb not to put a sliding roof when it gets to 110 outside!!!!

TO not know who the leading tackler in the #1 defense in the NFL says He doesnt watch much film on opponents and if he does he’s as dumb as dirt in the memory department. Benson will know who Harris is when he gets drilled.
Only chance Bengals have is if Shotty tries to get fancy instead of just pounding the ground with this #1 Rushing Offense.

What happened to dustin keller? he’s been a non-factor since we started being more conservative. I’d like to see him in more of the offense.

The 1st game I heard the J-E-T-S…JetsJetsJets chant at the stadium was so cool.Saw about a dozen games there over the years and suprisingly only 3-4 losses.Saw the Generals a bunch of times, hilarious. One time I caught a warm up field goal by Leahy that passed the net and was going into the tunnel…still have it and my buddy still has piece of turf from Sheas last day. Thanks for all the memories

CONT> plus FYI we lost 2 games maybe 3 in the last 2 min M-S & his growing pains had more INT’s & fumbles then we could over come in at least 4 games now if you do the math that’s 7-8games lost ..you cracked the case he cost us 1 game maybe MIKE-T GET THE PINK SLIPS facts Ray facts not opinions the guy is batting 90% or better

Hey Al, there was nothing obscene nor inappropriate, merely factual and honest, in my who-gives-a-hoot farewell to this miserable stadium that the Jets should never have set foot in. So I expect to see it posted here soon or I’ll appeal to Randy in a second post about the Giants Stadium played in by the Jets (only “The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” tops that one for absurdity).

Randy, Is there any way to get the 1050AM radio call on the internet? I would like to avoid listening to Joe Theisman, but would like to hear Bob and Marty’s call of the game…

  19. By Al Pereira on Jan 8, 2010 | Reply

Steve, the game is not carried on 1050espn.com to my knowledge but it is available for a fee through nfl.com’s Field Pass and on Sirius Radio.
