Mangold’s a Top 50 Player in NFL Network Series

Posted by Randy Lange on June 2, 2011 – 3:52 pm

It’s Nick Mangold’s turn in NFL Network’s megawatt spot.

Mangold, the Jets Pro Bowl center, will be one of the featured players when NFLN rolls out Nos. 50-41 of “The Top 100: Players of 2011″ on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is the presenter for Mangold, who has been selected for the last three AFC Pro Bowl rosters and has yet to miss a regular-season or playoff start in his five-year NFL career.

“The Top 100″ is a countdown show of the top players from the past season, as voted on by the players themselves. At 7 p.m. Sunday, before the Top 100 show, the network will air its recap show. Host Lindsay Soto, analysts Kurt Warner and Charles Davis and in-studio guest analysts Antonio Gates (Chargers), Darren Sharper (Saints) and Ronde Barber (Buccaneers) will review the first 50 players to be revealed and discuss which players might be included in the top 50.

Two Jets already have taken their bows. In the third episode, left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson checked in at No. 79 and wide receiver Santonio Holmes stepped up three picks later at No. 76.

And if those two shows don’t give you enough Top 100 for your Sunday night, at 9 p.m. the same analysts will continue with “The Top 100: Players of 2011 Reactions,” offering a closer look at the latest players featured in the series. All in all, it should be a good night of TV for friends, family and fans of No. 74.

Congrats to Nick, Brick and SH. And we all know Revis is a top 5 for sure. You know what i think Moore got snubbed again. He is one of the top OG’s in the NFL.
    GO JETS!!!!

Ira,you can’t be taking this countdown seriously, this is being voted by the players who have their jealousies, you have Revis going no lower than 5,remember he called Moss a slouch, players remember that, this is a popularity contest, why is greg jennings of the packers so low, maybe because he just shuts his mouth and does his job.

And he deserves to be Randy. Here is a guy who came up and started as a rookie and improved every year since. He is with out a doubt the best center in the NFL today, and based on contract negotiations, he is a class act as well as a great player.

I am glad to see some of the Jets in the top 100 but am a little ticked that Mcnabb and Romo made it on the list when both had a bad season Romo out early and Kitna carried the team and then Mcnabb getting benched and Rex taking over??? and yet Sanchez who for the second time takes the Jets to another AFC Championship game, get snubbed. IMO and probably because I’m a Jets fan but I honestly think he deserved to be on the list before those two.

Finally a positive sign to get a deal done. Maybe the owners are afraid that they will lose the revenue if they start to cancel preseason games? All i know is that this should’ve happened weeks ago. Get rid of the courts and lawyers and get a deal done with just both sides at the tables.

Gary, Its always good to know how your peers think of you. Yes you are right i am not taking this real serious. Its just something to read and watch to make the time go by until they resolve this lockout.
ESPN.Com actually rated players by position and that was real good.
Don’t forget CFL starts 6/15. Better than nothing for now.

CFL huh? This would’ve been the perfect year to launch the XFL. Now that was fun to watch!
Does anyone really think the 2 sides butting heads will cause a shortened or non season?

I feel they will play a full 16 game schedule. Maybe just start late. Preseason games though could be a different story.

Let’s see, if football is delayed or not played at all, well the islanders are improved, they will be fun to watch, myrtle beach and europe might beckon with airlines dropping their prices for fall, always the world series.some early holiday shopping.I can always throw in my honeymooners and original superman dvds.Yes,I believe their will be things to do and life will still exist.

I’m glad that 3 of our jets got in, though i am anxious to know if David Harris or shonne green will be in it. I mean they are extremely talanted and underrated players and I believe they should be on the list, what do you all think? by the way iv’e been watching Arena Football, its quite entertaining and better than nothing with this lockout going on.

watch where michael vick ends up on this list, and you know it is a joke.this guy is admired by other players in league and has accomplished squat.watch where he ends up compared to Rivers and Brady.

I’ve been saying it since it happened,,,everyone wanted the Jets to trade their 2 #1s and another pick to move up and get Bush. We stayed and really Mangini’s legacy was that draft in my eyes. He gave us Mangold and Brick and Clemens and B.Smith AND LEON!

    The NFL wants a guy like Vick, only problem is the game is tailored towards guys like him and Young. If he wants to fake slide or put a hit on a guy, he can. Everyone that dogged on Hall for not hitting was totally wrong. I can still see that replay in my mind. Mangold is the best center in the league. It’s time for Jet football. North and south running, pulling tackles, FB running, and scrap the trash motion. If you want to open up the running game, stop the BS junk and give him a series as a normal QB. It worked for CJ2K. Go Jets {I STILL WANT ATOGWE}
