Jets, Plaxico Burress Reach Agreement

Posted by Randy Lange on July 31, 2011 – 9:28 am

Update, 5:30 p.m. ET

The New York Jets  have announced this morning that they have reached an agreement in principle with wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

Burress, of course, is the 10th-year wideout who starred for five seasons with the Steelers and four with the Giants, including Super Bowl XLII before missing the last two seasons due to a firearms conviction.

Burress, who has 505 career regular-season receptions for 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns, was reported to have visited with his first two teams, the Giants and Steelers, before traveling to San Francisco to meet with the 49ers and then back east to talk with the Jets.

The audio of Burress’ conference call with reporters will be streamed on newyorkjets.com beginning at 5:45 p.m. ET and will be archived after that.

I think it wil work out better than Edwards…..Plaxico will do what ever it takes to get back on top…..

after a 2 years lay off are you sure this guy can still play football plus he not going to get too much time in trainning camp. I think I would rather have had Randy Moss over Burress.

I think he will be in Physical shape,,,,its just a matter of getting his timming down with Sanchez…and the play book

I think it will work out great. Holmes and Burress should work well togeather. Both played in Pitt as well. What would also be great is if the jets sign Randy Moss for a little more leadership and re sign our other cb Cromartie. Dominante if this happens

I hope this works out. I was wondering why Malcom Floyd was a target or even James Jones

Randy Moss isnt worth the Trouble,,,,Plaxico wasnt a clubhouse problem…he pulled a dumb stunt off the field. Moss causes to much trouble on the feild and in the locker room…….The big problem is not signing Brad Smith,,,he will come back to haunt us…

Better then Braylon? Come on we are going backward. We will cry all year long.

  10. By Larry on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

This is high risk move. If he is the same the Jets will be great on offense,,if he cant play anymore well you have a hole there.

  11. By Tom Spicer on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Well it came down to money before I heard about this signing they said Braylon wanted $10 mil per year like Holmes & the Jets were not going to give it to him. They got Plax on a 1 year $3 mil deal. Cheap & short term / low risk I hope he is in shape & can sill play. He is 34 & has not played since 2008 & I hope he has learned from his mistakes.

  12. By Larry on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

The Jets should have signed Floyd. This is a gamble shooting dice with Plax

  13. By John Powers on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

buress should be able to beat almost all the number 2 corners in the league. If your worried about being able to trust him just think back to when we signed Braylon. Hopefully we resign Cromartie and id like to see us go get ty warren for some added depth.

I like this move better than picking up Moss. I think Burress will have something to prove and has proven that he can come up with the catch in spotlight situations. I like the idea of bringing in another WR for insurance as well.

  16. By Tom Spicer on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

They signed Plax for only $3 mil for 1 year & they were willing to give Aso major cash. I dont not want to hear that they dont have the money to sign Cromartie they need to get this done now.

  17. By sillwayne1 on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

    Need to re sign Cromartie

  18. By mark on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

This has become a real circus!!! Holmes got too much money, Nnamdi was payed to much attention to, and we are still short a “top flight” corner. Yes Plax is a good receiver but was this really the smartest allocation of resources???

Well, Braylon did have issues off the field. The Jets can’t afford Braylon too bad, he was the play maker. Plaxico hopefully will have a Micheal Vick comeback type season. Good Luck Braylon, I just hope he doesn’t wind up on a divisional team.

  20. By Cyrael on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Still think we shoulda kept Braylon, he may have a DUI charge, but at least he dont have a bullet scar in his leg. Coulda got Braylon for the same price, and porbably for 3-5 year deal, woulda solidified our wr group. now we gotta worry about santonio keepin his head out of the gutter, 1 more bit of trouble and he is out for a year, will make that 24 mill guarantee well worth it.

  21. By Cyrael on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Think plaxico was gone already when santonio was drafted. Not really sure tho.

  22. By NYJets Rich on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Burress is a sure thing. Braylon Edwards (as you may recall) had many drops in 2009. Plaxico is a proven threat, although it may take him a few games to get his timing down with Mark. He, also, has a lot to prove and will do anything he can to show he still has “it”.. Randy Moss, on the other hand, is just too cocky for the team’s chemistry!
I wish him the best of luck and PLEASE don’t be a bust for my JETS. PLEASE!!!

love the move…think buress still has skills and most important he doesnt drop touchdowns ala BE…if the numbers are true its a good deal for both parties and he will help sanchez understand whats going on in the secoundary….Good move lets keep going!!!

  27. By Robert on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

This is a great move. Plax, as shown in the playoffs with the Giants, is a rare wr due to his height and physicality. What makes the Jets great is that they go after playmakers while other teams are unwilling to take as many chances and settle for mediocrity.

  28. By Jet Fan Since '64 Tom on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

George White, I agree with you about the motivational aspect, Burress will work hard to make a big comeback whereas I think Edwards still needs to get over himself a bit, especially if he really wanted $10 mil a yr as Spicer says, which is too much. Larry, I still prefer Floyd but I gotta admit, he’s 29 and it crossed my mind that the Jets might not want to give a guy that age a long-term deal, like I’m saying PHI isn’t smart to be giving to Aso and Jenkins, both 30. I don’t think 1 yr of Plax can hurt us and it could turn out to be a steal if he bounces back quickly. Plus if we sign him and Heap, it’ll be a move toward bigger receiving targets which is LONG overdue on this team. Holmes takes care of more speed at WR, also long overdue.

  29. By Gordan Duffield on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

The Eagles took a chance on Michael Vick, no reason Plaxico can’t do the same. I like the idea of him going after a jump ball in the endzone.

  30. By kk on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

I’m not impressed with the moves so far with the exception of Holmes of course. But Mike T usualy has a plan so I will trust them and wait and see what else they do. Hopefully some of these draft picks surprise us and re-signing Ellis is important we need the Big Cat in there as a player and teacher.

Made the Plax prediction first as well, when most wanted Braylon.

  34. By Jet Fan Since '64 Tom on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Cyrael, it’s tough to see someone as good as Edwards leave, especially when he got better with us. But it was Ellard who partly helped him get better, and I think Plax will be in good hands with Ellard too. What’s more, you’d appear to be WAY off about being able to get BE for the same money as Plax. If he’s really asking for $10 mil when he’s got a suspension hanging over his head he’s dreaming, he should be playing it exactly the opposite way, asking for less $. Spicer, when did you fall in love with Cro? Certainly not in your posts last season! If this day-to-day update thing means anything, it’s clear the Jets aren’t that high on him and though I defended him last yr, he’s another who should be settling for less $, not asking for more.

  35. By dante on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

i think its a great move you have 2 super bowl MVP recievers on the same team. mark sanchez is a year wiser and all we need is a pass rusher. they didnt break the bank for plax so maybe they have enough money to get a pass rusher now.go jets CANT WAIT

  36. By dave on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Umm, I guess I can get on board with this. Hope it came at a much lower price tag than Braylon. Looks like we have 2 guys that have had game winning super bowl grabs. Last I remember Plax was basically uncoverable. Do the two years out hurt him, or is that just two years for all his ailing parts to heal and two years to of not taking hits (we hope). Either way, he is a Red Zone threat any time he is on the field.
This move HAS to be coupled with a cromartie resign to make us true contenders. And can we get Kendrick signed and into camp, so he can be ready to clog holes in 6 weeks. And what about a punter?

  37. By Ron Bee on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Should have got a pass rusher…Now we have a guy who has not played ball for two years as a starting wideout?

I hope the JETS know what they are doing…

  38. By david21 on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Alright, alright calm down o’l faithfuls!! This is the deal, Nnamdi took the Jets for a ride, and we lost Smith, however moving forward, Plaxico is not done he is a great addition, Braylon was asking for too much cash. In my humble opinion I would definitely go out and get a very good pass rusher and I would try to get james jones, or Randy Moss, i know the money is available. True Randy is trouble and has issues in the locker room but Rex seems to know how to fix these issues. It seems we are gearing up to be a passing team and not a running team! What ever happened to pound the ball down the middle. We have to very good RB’s!! We need to sign Cromartie ASAP. Trust me we will still beat the problem childs( Ochocinco and Company)

  39. By Stephen on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Plaxico was a top tier receiver three years ago, there’s no reason to think he’s lost his edge. We have three quality starting receivers in Cotchery, Holmes and Burress – the trusted inside guy, speed and finesse, and the big guy with ball magnetism. Throw in Keller and the Ravens’ Heap who we’re talking to, LT and Richardson’s sure hands, and a protective offensive line that should give Sanchez time to look at a few options, and, well, good luck opposing secondaries! Let’s not forget we have a half dozen rookie receivers, one or two will hopefully develop a rapport with no. 6 and add to the mix. Looking forward to another competitive year.

Could the jets pick up Randy Moss still? Anyone have news on the Moss rumors still. We could be thinking offense this year. We have Kyle Wilson at CB. We could still get Cro at CB still. Or trade with the eagles. We all know that if the CBs play good. The D-line can produce more sacks. Lets just hope we can pick up our slack this FA year I am hoping there are more FA pick ups or trades on the way.

So instead of “Ground and Pound” will we be playing the “Run and Shoot”?

Look…as a purely football move, it’s an upgrade (gain 2″ of height over Edwards, plus lose the Lam Jones experience of will he or won’t he catch the ball, but Plax needs to be a model citizen or Jets fans will turn on him so damn fast his head will spin. AND NEVER wear that Phillies hat to training camp! Maybe J-Co will rub off on Plax and calm him down some. Nice set of receivers we have now. If Greene steps up, and LT fills in nicely, watch out NFL!

Plaxico was a much better pick up than Ochocinco. And he’s also better than Edwards. Now lets take care of our own ,Harris, and get this season started.

Jets keep making good pick ups! REMEMBER, u still have 2 stay within the salary cap. It’s not easy. They still have a lot of holes to fill, but this one is huge (Burress)!!! LETS GO JETS, JETS, JETS!!!

  47. By Chris on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Does this mean they are switching to a “run-and-gun” offense?

  48. By GaryC on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

supposedly burress was having a sitdown with coughlin to find out what was expected from him, guess he didn’t pass seargant toms strict rules, but with rexy anything goes as long as it is off the field,do the jets have a quota of how many questiionable character guys they need to put on the field at one time.

  49. By jetsfanatic247 on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

I like the plax deal. You guys know braylon would have had his pride hurt if he signed with the jets for less than holmes. This is a good pick up by the jets. I would love to see us go after james jones. Im nervous about cotch’s back injury. More importantly, I think the jets need to go out and trade for asante samuel. The eagles are reportedly only asking for a third round pick. If the jets don’t make this move it will be a serious step back.

I wanted B-E here problem with that resentment of S-M contract and way Mike -T handled his situation not to mention drops .. I believe Plax is the best alternative for many reasons he needs to prove himself once again, believe 3 years in jail will curb his appetite for trouble, last be not least he’s a proven top fight receiver we got for practically nothing in today’s standards

  51. By Mike Shults on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Now go resign Braylon Edwards and have the sickest receiving corps the NFL has ever seen. Sanchez will thrive having thoes three guys behind them. Braylon is a tool, but structure his deal with performance bonuses and incentives and watch how that boy plays. Come on jets get it done. you know I am right

  52. By ramie78 on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

We just love to sign misfits! I hope that he comes in with a chip on his shoulder. Homle’s and Burress will give teams a great scare. Let keep it up cause the Pats have gotten alot better and we still need a few more piece.

  53. By GaryC on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

only good thing about this signing is we will have him for one year,by next year he will look for a long term deal and even the jets would not sign a 35 year older next year too long term, then again with the jets you never know.

  54. By LPC on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

No CB and still no help with the pass rush !!

  55. By Rafael on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Good signing by the Jets. Trader Mike needs to make these moves because of the top heavy team we have. Can’t pay everyone $10 M a year. Plax may not have been a problem in the clubhouse but he can sure be a pain in the rear. The G-men probably run a tighter ship, but Plax was fined over 50 times while he was a Giant. Lateness’s & missed team meetings galore. The Jets have enough leaders on this team to hopefully put him in his place if that starts again. But Plax made Eli look like a much more accurate QB than he really is. Sanchez should have well over 20 TD’s this year.

  56. By WoodyEnglish on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Edwards and Holmes were both orig signed and made to promise they’d be good off the field. Not only did Edwards NOT keep his word, he sometimes ? drops the ball AND he wants too much money because of all that. Plax is cheaper and he came outta prison ready to go with rested legs. Ask ANY corner in the league if they can STOP Plax in the End Zone corner on a jump ball. He’s TALL !!!!! He is known for being a sometimes clubhouse problem, but Ryan isn’t Coughlin. Good p/u if he plays every down which Edwards did not either.
YES I love Cromartie and we need him but he’s finding out he’s also asking too much as he has slowed a tad.We all do. It’s business. I hope we sign him too and if he wants to win who’s he got a better chance with ?

  57. By Ray on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

The ONLY way that they couldn’t fit Edwards under the cap is because they want to re-sign Cro. And they better get it done. Isn’t it kind of ironic that we are now it a bidding war with the RAIDERS… the team that screwed everything up in the first place by over paying Namdi years ago!! Not a fan of the Burress deal but makes sense… just wonder how his football shape will be… sounds like a hammy waiting to happen. Wonder how many games we will get out of him.

  58. By Ray on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

’64 Tom, answering you over here… I don’t think the Kerley signing had anything to do with BE, I think Kerley is a direct result of BS. I think BE is a result of wanting the same money as SH and there is no way he is getting that, cap space or not. And yes a suspension looming over his head is not helping him latch on to any other team I suspect also. If they would get a long term deal done with Harris they would have no cap worries. I am a little surprised they let Weatherford go, we haven’t had a guy kick that well for us since Ben Graham’s first year. Hoping they re-sign S. Ellis for depth and lockerroom presence, should be able to get him fairly cheap.

  60. By Christopher on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

I swear the Jets signed Buress just to keep him from the Eagles, a we got you back deal….Moss (as much as I was against that move) would have been cheaper. Now Braylon is gone, and what a shame, should have at least offered him the same contract offered to Buress and see what happens. We still need a pass rusher, and with no one left, do we resign JT for another season? This season’s outlook still looks good, but we are going to need some guys to step up…i.e. Wilson, Greene, McKnight, Westerman. Still concerned about safety, how about bringing Elam back, at least he is familiar with our system.

I am still trying to figure out how a man gets a two year prison sentence for a charge that should have resulted in a fine and a little bit of community service. It kind of makes me wonder who his attorney was and who was the judge(maybe super maximum Bob).I hope Ellis does not get the same judge he probably would get 50 years.Anyhow best of luck to a major victim of our judicial system Burress he certainly deserves it.

Burress will be just fine. He was a stud before the incident. He just needs to get his timing down with Sanchez. He’s great over the middle and on jump balls in the end zone. His body should be great after a 2 year layoff. I’m sure the Jets checked him out thoroughly before signing him. He should be able to play 2-3 more years in the NFL.

Can we stop with all of this Brad Smith nonsense – for the Bills to give him that kind of money is insane. Braylon Edwards did a lot of great things for the team however the Jets have to be very careful where and how they spend their money as they need to try and get Cromartie and have to take care of David Harris. This reminds me when Chrebet just finished his rookie season. We signed Jeff Graham from S.D. as a free agent and then drafted Keyshawn Johnson in the first round and Alex Van Dyke in the second round – had all this money tied up in the receivers and it was a financial nightmare. With the money Edwards is commanding, there would not be enough footballs available to justify the salaries both he and Holmes would be getting paid.

  75. By Big New Yorker on Jul 31, 2011 | Reply

Enough chatter about corners and wide receivers!! We need a damn pass rusher to put pressure on the QB. If we can get a top notch DE that can put pressure and flush the QB out of the pocket (especially Brady) the JETS defense will be complete.

I’m just going to throw this out there the team was TOTALLY unprepared this free agency period. Overall the best thing was signing all draft picks and Holmes( too much money even though its been said he took less to stay with JETS) Nhandi is about money seen his press conference I’m glad he went to Philly. Cro is only worth tops maybe 5mil a yr his tech isn’t good and his tackling is suspect. Edwards wanted too much money period but in hindsight the JETS were willing to have 2 high priced CBs. Tan really messed up and even though REX is a good coach these players are about money so regardless of REX’S charm or whatever money talks I’m still trying to figure out how are the JETS over the cap yet Philly is signing everybody like its Madden

I hope the Wildcat haters are right about the improvement in our O will make the need for a change of pace.unnecessary. We definitely should trade for A Samuel, maybe the Eagles will take a 5th round pick & an OC to be named later :)

How the heck can anyone say the Pats and Fins improved over us. The Pats signed a big mouth (bothof them) problem players. Ocho is past his prime…another Revis shutdown. Fat Albert already not in practice…besides Pats already have a super nose tackle that Mangold man handles. The Fins…what did they do to improve…signed a QB Moore…LOL….Bush…LOL…and a reciever now published having Mental problems. Wait till Revis gets in his head. welcome aboard Plax. BE is NOT getting money he wants…that and a pending suspension looming is why NO team has approached him. Will be lucky to get 5million a year from somebody.

The bottom line is that unless our players (sanchez, kyle wilson, greene etc) improve their game this year, and our draft picks have rookie of the year seasons, we are screwed. On paper we are worse right now than we were at this time last year. Let’s face it, Plax does not replace Braylon, B Smith is gone (HUUGE!), Cro probably gone, weatherford gone JT gone. OK, If we end up keeping Cro and picking up Moss or James Jones then maybe I’ll go back on my word. As we stand right now, we’re looking at an 8-8 season.

I like the Plax signing.I’ve been wanting taller WRs since Herm Edwards was coaching the Green & White. I hope this means the Jets will be gathering no Moss. I’d like to see Cro & Asante on the team. With the NFL being more & more a passing league we may as well make the nickel package the base D with 3 starting CBs, 3 LBs & 2 Ss on passing downs (call it the ‘Triple 3′) & 4 LBs & 1 S on running downs.

I hope Plax can block like Edwards. Gonna miss Edwards but Plax is a great move for what we paid and what is out there. Now PLEASE bring back my boy Cro!!!!! Also maybe Osi and the Giants can’t work out a deal and they let him go.. I wouldnt mind him in green!!! Go Jets!!

I am soo glad to see that the Jets made a great decision. Plaxico will be an asset to our team. Another great year is on the rise. Lets Go Jets.

Say Randy, Why is the news out of NJ so skimpy? I check this site several times a day for the inside track. I find Jet info on NFL.com faster than this site. News is old on this post. Whats up with that? Whats going on?

it is an interesting question but tanny was supposedly a great capologist, and many others have seemed to leave him in neutral.we were left to sign a guy who has been out of football for two years, lost our top kickoff return man, still haven’t addressed the defensive end position, sorry guys, it will take time for wilkerson and ellis and a speed linebacker to cover the backs.Planes,Trains, and Automobiles, failed to come to rexys door looking for a job.It will take a little more than saying we are the favorite to win the super bowl.oh yeah, that’s right, I guess the free agents figured if it was a super bowl team, it would be tough to crack the roster.

Ray, I agree with you about Kerley replacing Smith and I agree with Chicago Bob about Smith, the KR with no natural position, being worth anything like what the Bills gave him. But there’s something about Schotty going to look at Kerley personally that suggests me me that he’s more than just a KR/PR, which you certainly could never say about Smith. Ed, kw65, and Chicago, I agree with you about taller WRs, the Pats and the Fins, and that mess with WRs yrs back. I woulda loved to get Floyd or Jones but they woulda cost at least as much as Edwards, who may be pricing himself out of the market. If he thinks he’s worth that much, let him go to ARI, the land of Ex-Jets Who Will Never Be Heard From Again.

I wanted BE back too, but if he wanted too much money, then Plax was a good back up plan. Its low risk and who knows he could be great and then we will have the problem of trying to sign him next year. I hope BE signs out here with the Cards. Sign Cro NOW. Go JETS.

Very happy they signed Plax who way back in Feb i thought was a player they would replace Edwards with. Just thrilled it wasn’t R. Moss.
Why they didn’t use Edwards more in the redzone last year is a big question. With Plax now it should be a lot easier and their redzone scoring % should go up. More TD’s and less FG’s.
Randy, Any idea how many targets Edwards had last year in the redzone?
AS for Kerley this dude can play and not only ST’s. He is a more natural and polished WR then Mizzou was. LT ran some WC last summer and i am sure Kerley will get his work load with it. Once they trust him with the ball he will get that job.
Now its Cro time and hope the deal gets done before the morning.
    GO JETS!!!!

Ira, I don’t have the number of targeted passes totaled up but I can tell you the Jets’ 44 red zone receptions in their 19 games were divided up this way: Dustin Keller (10 catches, 49 yards, 4 TDs), LaDainian Tomlinson (10-33-1), Edwards (7-70-4), Santonio Holmes (7-44-3) and Jerrich Cotchery (6-26-2), Shonn Greene (3-22-0) and Tony Richardson (1-7-0).

I dont think it was a good decision to drop Braylon and resign Santonio Holmes for 50 million, PLUS Santonio was not all that hot to me this past season…..Braylon on the other hand was THE MAN!!! It would have been nice to have two BIG WIDEOUTS with speed and agility!!! JETS DID GOOD ON PICKING UP PLAX BUT POORLY ON DROPPING BRAYLON, We better hope that Bellichik doesnt pick up Braylon!

yes jet fan tom, a receiving corp of fitzgerald, edwards and todd heap, for some reason if jets had that corp you would be saying tanny and rex are the best, and I do believe the cardinals were in a super bowl not to long ago,so they have been heard from recently.

Kick off returners will be neutralized by the kick off being at the 35 yard line. BS got way to much money. Plax is a beast inside the red-zone. Sanchez has great accuracy on that corner end zone pass, and Plax can go get. I am 36 and have been a die hard for 30 years. I can honestly say, I have trust in what Rex. Mr.T and Woody are doing. Go get my Todd Heap, resign Cro, and get some safety help. Don’t forget we drafted a couple of WR’s. Will this be the year? We can create pressure with our blitz package, will this be the year? I hope so.

While Kerley may replace BE in years to come, THIS year his role will be ST, maybe some wildcat and in specialized packages. He is here to fill the void left by BS.

GaryC, Fitzgerald’s the best WR in the NFL in my view, so no argument there. I liked Heap as a 2nd guy to Keller, not as a starter, he’s too old, Miller would be much better. As for ARI, I meant it’s the ex-Jets there who’ll never be heard from again, not the team. Faneca had such a lousy yr he retired and the mop-up tackles I saw Rhodes get when they were down 3 TDs didn’t fool me, he’s no future star. Feely’s the only guy they got from us I wish we could get back. Big O, I don’t know what Jet games you watched whereby Holmes was nothing much but Edwards was great. I’ve watched since just after we traded Art Powell and I’ve never seen a Jets WR win games like SH did almost by himself in the clutch. Walker did it but not 5 games in a row!

Deeply disappointed how this whole week went with the free agents. I think there was too much hype to just end up with Buress and a maybe on Cromartie. Cromartie won’t come easy. He knows that the Jets were willing to pay top dollar for ASO and the Raiders are interested in him as well. I still think that BE would have been a better pick since he already knows the playbook and has an established relationship with Sanchez. BE had his issues last season but still performed when we needed it. Now it will be up to Sanchez Buress and Holmes to work on that chemistry to get some points on the score board.

We need to sign our remaining free agents to be a super bowl contender, Depth counts I mean look at the Packers, 15 players on injury reserve and 2 of their starts go down in the super bowl, Depth is very important! besides we need veterans to tutor the rookies and keep a leadership vibe in the locker room.

I really wanted to see BE resigned, but he is finding out, and going to find out, he is asking for way to much money. Plax will play great for the Jets. He will be a big addition in the red zone. Plax was a good signing and trust me , he will play great in the Red zone, which equals more TD’s. Still loved the way he faked Hobbs out of his jock in the Giants Superbowl win. As far as BE is concerned, don’t be too surprised if he does finally sign with the Jets, depending on the cap room after signing cro and whatever they may do for a pass Rusher.

To Dug, lived in nyc most of my life, lived in indy last seven years, I hate the colts, you and I know when manning leaves most people will go back to the indy racing league,as for the jets, I do not shill,I am not one to say everything is rosy when it isn’t.As jet fan tom knows we also banter back and forth,we have many knowlegeable fans on site but many who believe everything the jets do is better than any other organization in the league.I am not the kool aid drinker, sorry, listen to others if you want that.

PurpleFlash, even I’m not optimistic enough to get my hopes up that Edwards will see things differently in the end and take less $ to stay a Jet. But I’ll admit it would be a great if he did. Given how slow J-Co looked last yr when he started across from BE, how he’s missed games due to injuries the last 2 yrs, and how he hasn’t had the benefit of our training facility to rehab from his back surgery this yr, I’m more than a little worried about him. I know Kerley’s 1st role will be ST but if we don’t get BE back, don’t be surprised to see Holmes, Plax, and Kerley lining up more and J-Co less, just like when Greene took the lead over TJ the yr before when TJ ran out of gas and SG was coming on strong. You go with the guy that’s producing.

Plax deserves another chance and it will be fun to see him get it with the Jets. Is it a gamble, perhaps. But with Edwards demanding Santonio type money and being far from Santoniolike it makes good sense to go with Plax. Eli Manning hasn’t been the same since losing him and there is good reason for that. Hes a huge target with great hands, unlike Edwards who drops quite a few.
