Jets Player to Be Unveiled as one of NFL’s Top 10

Posted by jetsstaff on June 27, 2012 – 5:50 pm

NFL Network’s major offseason production, “The Top 100: Players of 2012,” is coming to a close tonight, and for those of the Green & White persuasion, we’re told a Jets player will be named in one of the network’s final two one-hour shows.

We weren’t told that player’s identity, but you would have had to spend the past four years on an island to not have a good guess who the Jets’ representative will be either on tonight’s unveiling of players 10 through 6 airing at 8 p.m. ET or of players 5 through 1 set to hit the air at 9 p.m. ET.

Then following those final two shows, NFL Network will air a “Reactions Presented by Buffalo Wild Wings” show at 10 p.m., in which host Lindsay Rhodes, NFL players and network analysts will discuss the latest group of players to be unveiled. And fans have the opportunity to join in the debate and voice their own opinions and reactions on Facebook and Twitter and to vote on their own Top 100 on NFL.com/top100.

    Revis pay this man already

Don’t let Revis see the show, he’ll want to renegotiate again, and again, and again.

Duhhh, Gee, I wonder who it is???? O.k so Revis will now have more ammo to stick it to Tannenbaum to get his new deal! Great! more salary cap problems will no doubt ensue! Too bad its not Mangold who is the ultimate team guy and also deserves the accolades! Of course no way a center is gonna get the money the top C.B gets. Hate to admit it but Revis is the best at what he does.

Knowing the NFL network it may be Tebow.

  5. By kw65fan on Jun 27, 2012 | Reply

DUH…i wonder who. I’m just totally annoyed that Mangold didn’t make it. Tebow…even at 97 was a joke. Mangold should have been in there…somewhere…

PAY THE MAN!!!! His last contract was front loaded. Pay him what he deserves. He needs to be in training camp.

  7. By joe on Jun 27, 2012 | Reply

Revis is the MAN but in TYPICAL SAME OLD JET FASHION the REST OF THE TALENT ON THIS TEAM IS SEVERLY LACKING.Teams like PITTSBURGH ,GB, NY GIANTS PATRIOTS SF NINERS have 3-4x THE AMOUNT OF PLAYERS in the top 100 than we do.

  8. By joe on Jun 27, 2012 | Reply

Specifically we have REVIS MANGOLD AND TEBOW in the top 100 .Lets compare us to say PITTSBURGH who has ROTHESBURGER,POUNCEY ,WALLACE WOODLEY,HARRISON POLUMU and HAMPTON .Which team is 500 (and didnt beat a winning team all year )and which team CONTENDS FOR THE SB EVERY YEAR

  9. By scjoe on Jun 27, 2012 | Reply

Ya think maybe it will be 24? LOL. I have said it before, on the playing field I think Revis is quite possibly the best defensive player in the league.Off the playing field there is much to be desired. Take a close look at Mangold, Brick and Harris DR. See how it should be done.

  10. By kw65fan on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

Congrats Revis…your peers certainly know who the best is. Oh boy…more fuel to the fire…YO MT…see this number 5….YO tanny….SHOW ME THE MONEY…!!!!!

Darrelle…show up at camp…be a team player that I know you are. You’ll get your money…sooner than later. show some class and stop listening to your dumb Uncle. we know you deserve it…just be at camp or your going to lose respect from your number 1 supporter…the Fans….

Darrelle Revis number 5 – wonderful now I’m sure he will want to renegotiate his contract now- good timing NFL network.

I was being sarcastic about Tebow and he is #97. What a farce

cannot believe people take that countdown seriously, wasn’t ray lewis in the top five last year even though his prime passed him by a long time ago,you need to travel with the clique,if you want to get good standing with union.lewis would be in the top 20 even if he was on the bench.

  14. By GaryC on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

yes, sean gilbert, didn’t I mention him last year as someone who kept bending revis’s ear, when people said I was off base.as they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

  15. By ron alexander on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

JasonKaplan, Dude, wake up! You cant possiably pay him 15million every year. There are 53 active players every game plus the practice squad(8 more) and you also need money in reserve to fill spots due to injury! Nobody, not Brady, Brees, or Rodgers gets that kind of money every year! You have to stagger the amounts so you can pay all your top tier players at different vintervals. You cant pay 10 guys 15 million every year as you would go way over the cap and still have close to about 55 other guys who would have to play for free? Contracts are front loaded as a way of guaranteeing them. Do you remember Harris and Mangold had to wait a year to get their deals because the Jets gave Revis hi deal?

  16. By IRA on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

I am not big on ranking lists but this one from the players does account for something. Really don’t care if Revis was voted #1 or #5. After he puts together 2 more years of the type of play he has shown in his career he will finish his career and mentioned in the NYG’s LT. Thats how much of an impact Revis has in a game. The Jets have to make a big decision on what to do or maybe they have already. He will get his money one way or another.

  17. By Allan O'Dane on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

Revis at #5…Ok…But not to have Mangold on this list???? Now that’s crazy! He’s by far the best center in the NFL. Revis signed a front loaded contract…He got 30+ million up front…he has TWO years left on his contract. I could understand if it was his final year..BUT COME ON MAN!….Sometimes as an organzation you to say enough is enough. I love Revis…I think he’s the best…but now it looks like greed. Revis should honor his contract and then sign a contract that would make him a Jet for life. Stop this nonsense….

Joe, I love ya dude but you are one stubborn dude!(bye the way, nice to have you back!Did you kidnap Danny?) Anyway, I do believe I clearly demonstrated to you that the Giants and Jets were very simular in talent. lets not start that whole argument again. I know you are a closet Mark Sanchez fan who doesn’t want us to know how much you love the guy! Listen, seriously, we are stuck with him one way or another this year so the way I see it one of two things will happan.1- He gets it together this year and proves all the nay-sayers wrong(ehh, that would be you!)Or 2- He stinks it up again and you and the rest of his secret fan club here are proven right and we get rid of him.Either way,we do have a season to play.Go Jets!

This NFL top 100 is bogus. Mangold is not even on the list and even though I am not a Giant fan, Eli should been in the Top 10. Brady moves to 4 and everybody makes a big deal that he drops. He’s good but people need to get off the ‘golden boy’ already. I will agree with one thing though, Aaron Rodgers was ranked at the right place, no. 1, the guy is the best QB in the league, hands down.

  20. By Tom Spicer on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

Tebow is on the list but Mangold is not? That list is a joke.

  21. By joe on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

Ron YOU may think the GIANTS and JETS are of equal TALENT BUT THE NFL PLAYERS AND THE TEAMS RECORDS SAY OTHERWISE .There are GIANTS ALL OVER THIS LIST BUT FEW JETS .To those who think its a BOGUS LIST HELLO the ranking are done by the PLAYERS THEMSELVES .If anyone KNOWS TALENT ITS THE ACTUAL PLAYERS THEMSELVES

  22. By ron alexander on Jun 28, 2012 | Reply

Wow! Joe, I think your a pretty smart guy but somtimes you still amaze me. Of course there are more Giants on the list, they won the freak’n SuperBowl! Even some of the brainsurgeons playing in the NFL can figure that one out!So you say the team records say the Giants were much better? I believe 9-7 vs 8-8 comes down to a one game difference?Come on dude, the Giants won one more game(against us I know) but it took a unbelievable play by Victor Cruz to make that happan. Hey If Santonion Holmes made that play instead the G-men go home like we did. Joe, we went down the list and if you combined the two teams you would be looking at at least 11 of 22 starters being Jets.SPICER,yikes, Tebow on and no Mangold? Go figure?

Joe, everyone if their honest has prejudice views on something,if you think these guys are giving you honest evaluations on everyone I will have santa come down your chimney christmas time.

THE difference in mentality between CHAMPIONSHIP FRANCHISE (PACKERS,PATS STEELERS ECT )AND US IS NIGHT AND DAY. AARON ROGERS (best player in the NFL )ON GB season last year =ALL THE WINS MEAN NOTHING BECAUSE WE DIDNT WIN THE SB .IN this league thats ALL THAT MATTERS Obviously MR ROGERS disagrees with MANY DAYDREAMING JET FANS who boast about IFS, ALMOST WOULD HAVE ,COULD HAVE SHOULD HAVE.

THE NFL NETWORK also clarifyed the players ranking TEBOW IN THE TOP 100.The players RANKED TEBOW IN THE TOP 100 AS A OVERALL FOOTBALL PLAYER NOT SPECIFICALLY AS A QUARTERBACK..Many formulated their opinions ON TEBOW because of his ability to run the football.Had the players been asked TO RANK HIM AS A QB DIFFERENT STORY

Joe, so let me get this right?, your baseing your argument on the intellegence of N.F.L players? Come on dude, your kidding? i have been around a lot of these guys over the years and believe me, there are not a lot of rocket scientists here. Have you looked at the percentages of the guys who actuallt graduate? And even a lot of the guys who do graduate are shakey at best.
Hey, there are a lot of guys who are on the ball, but please dont tell me they are all a bunch of geneouses .

If Mangold is not in the top 100, they must not count Centers. Name 1 center who is hands down better than Mangold. There is none. What we really need is to get 2 guys from the defensive front 7 onto this list. We seem to have hired the correct DL coach, now lets see if we have talent or not.

  31. By joe on Jul 2, 2012 | Reply

Jimmer the PLAYERS did the ratings and had MAURICE POUNCEY rated above MANGOLD probably because hes more athlehic .As far as defencive FRONT 7 GUYS please teams like PITTS AND BALTIMORE have second stringers THAT ARE BETTER our first stringers .Who on our d (other than REVIS )would start for PITTS OR BALT .

@KW65… IM WITH YOU. ALTHOUGH I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THIS LIST, EXPLAIN HOW THE DEFACTO BEST CENTER IN THE NFL ISNT IN THE TOP 40, LET ALONE TOP 100. ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING HOW IMPORTANT THAT POSITION IS!

It should be Tebow. No player, being the single alteration to any team, was able to turn around a pitiful poor 1-4 team like the Broncos and take them two games deep into the playoffs. When being permitted to start, he went 10-6. How can you let one of the greatest collegiate QBs in history sit the bench? He should be getting play time. Were it not for the politics of the NFL, I have little doubt he would be on his way to being one of the greats. Now his skills are going to have to sit on the bench again behind a so-so QB like Sanchez. I was a “Broadway Joe” fan. Tebow is the best chance to get that quality again; or better.. Jets getting him must have been an “act of God.”

  35. By SCfromNY on Jul 6, 2012 | Reply

Chicago Al; Please get back on your meds. You sound like a very intelligent person to be making such wild statements. Great college QBs do not always turn into great NFL QBs. Tebow was put in charge of a non traditional NFL offense that took teams awhile to figure out. Once figured out they were stopped cold and lit up. A great defense kept a victory alive. They beat the Steelers because the Steelers for some reason decided to stop the run at all costs and take a chance on Tebows long ball. The long ball gives receivers a chance to make the adjustment on Tebow’s poor throws. There is not one elite or even good NFL QB who can not make an accurate short throw. Tebow can NOT!
