The only thing i dont agree with is you are apparently willing to cut Tannenbaum more slack than the rest of us. Joe (caps:) – It’s a simplistic view of the NFL to state that the Director of Player Personnel is the single most important person to an NFL team. For example the Jets don’t employ ONE individual with that responsibility they have a staff, many teams function this way. We all credit Tanny when Jets get a quality player in trade or draft and lambaste him when a pick is a bust. Is T-bomb a renegade, living in a bunker somewhere isolated from any contact or input from Bradway, his assistant Wooden, Ryan, Bauer (scouting director) Clearly not. Look at all the people in the draft war room – do all but Tanny have duct tape over their mouths? :D It’s a consensus. Great Coaches beat better teams by exploiting favorable player match-ups and schemes

JOE, Although there is certianly some validity to you arguments that coaches all have the same knowledge i think your missing some key points. Although the knowledge at this level is probably comparable, the ability to transmit that info to the coaching staff & of course the players is at least equally as important. There is a long list of failed coaches who had great football minds but could not successfully communicate their ideas. Another key area is organizational skill.Having the right people in the correct posisition to take advantage of their individual skill sets.A good example of the latter would be our reciever coach.Obviously he has not been able to this point to get out 2nd rd.pic to catch a freak’n pass!

Cudos to you to BYRDMAN. I gotta go with you on the Dungy thing. Too many winning seasons plus two superbowl wins to dismiss as less than elite.I met Dungy in the Minnieapolis airport several years ago and he was nice a gentlman as anyone I have ever met. As I am 6-6 & about 255 lbs he sizes me up as a football player and we chatted for close to an hour as we awaited our fleights.he must have asked me a dozen questions about my football days, family and career. The guy is a real people person and we would be lucky to have him as a Jet coach.

ScJoe – In regards to Dungy: If you just look at his record as HC he’s 70 games over .500 – Many feel that he got screwed in Tampa where he had everything in place EXCEPT for a franchise QB, Gruden parachutes in and takes Dungy’s team plus a competent QB to Victory. Over his 13 years Tony only had 1 losing season.his first in TB – his teams averaged nearly 11 wins every year – think about that! As Jet fans we would be dancing in the streets! Do I want Tony to replace Rex? NO but my point is I would put Dungy on the top shelf because he had 2 totally different type teams (Bucks elite D) and (Colts elite O) playing excellent football for over a decade. Jet fans have NEVER seen anything close to that level of performance and consistency!

jetblue u really have some good posts.We all know how bad this organisation is and has been and it doesn’t look like its changing anytime soon. It starts at the top and if the owner isn’t 100% into winning well i guess we r all wasting our time. Win or lose Sunday they aren’t going to the playoffs.This team doesn’t have enough good core play makers to compete against the best teams in the league. Tanny needs to do a better job drafting good talented players instead of trying to play lets make a deal every year. If they aren’t able to turn this season around with the current players they r playing in the next few games, they should at least try a change at the qb position( Mclroy). I’m predicting 6-10. A sorry fan for another sorry year.

On the Colts Byrdman, we have to agree to disagree. Yes Dungy took the Colts to a SB win, WITH Peyton Manning, don’t think he would have done it without him. Dungy retired, Caldwell inherited the same personnel (Peyton included) and also took the team to a SB (a loss) The following season (without Peyton) that same exact team won all of 3 games. It is my contention that even had Dungy remained the HC in 2011 (without Peyton) that team would not have fared much better. I would bet the ranch on that. I wouldn’t consider Dungy an “elite” HC. I would consider the QB who played for him “elite” So elite, that his team went 13-3 in 2010 and 3-13 the following year with an almost identical roster without him.

Byrdman, re: the “negativity” I can relate, I think most Jet fans can. Although I like to refer to it as reality, because basically that is what it is, we here on Randy’s radar are just the messengers, we talk about, and sometime debate about what we see in front of us, regardless of what a select few like to label us as, it is right there in plain sight for all to see. Like you, I approach each season on a positive note, but how do you stay positive with a game like the Miami game, or the SF game, or the Pit game? Just compete, that is all I ask for. The competitive balance in this league being what it is, that is not to much to ask for.

I’ve NEVER once thought the Jets had more talent than the top 6 or 8 teams in the NFL. Every year we are an underdog team on paper who either back in to a playoff game or the stars align just right for em, only to be exposed when we face a superior team. Wouldn’t it be great if we were loaded with so much speed and talent that BOZO the clown could coach em to the SB? Or even an amusing goofball like Rex?

Looking back over this past month, my comments have been about 90% negative. I don’t wan’t to give you folks the wrong impression – I approach each season hoping the Jets somehow against all odds reach and win the SB. I actually believed Rex when he stated “This could be the best team I’ve had” Most of my life the Jets have ranged from average to laughingstock, with a fluke playoff game here and there. I really bought into the hype surrounding Rex in 09, thinking maybe we finally got it right with this guy. His playoff run (seems like 5 years ago) was great but,, I feel like he needs a huge infusion of elite talent – gamebrakers on both sides of the ball – to win a SB. Maybe a 5 win record can land us 2 or 3 and they steal a FA or 2

ScJoe – As I recall the Colts won the SB under Tony Dungy – based upon his record is considered an Elite coach. When Tony retired, Caldwell took over and the team basically fell apart. Jet fan’s love the decision Caldwell made to pull Manning – we hammered the backup (Painter) and punched our wildcard ticket that year. The order of events was SB, then playoff loss, Dungy retires, Caldwell clueless, Manning injured, Cwell fired, 1st pick Luck – now that same 3 win team looks like they will be going to the SB before our Jets do. The NFL isn’t fair: Colts have an elite coach and QB for a decade, lose BOTH fans suffer through ONE bad season, grab their new elite franchise QB for the next decade while Jet fans wonder “why not our team” ?

Spicer, 2 or 3 players away? Maybe if they were Peyton Manning, Arian Foster, and JJ Watt. Otherwise? I don’t think so. Take a look around the roster. Would you agree the only keepers should be, Revis, Mangold, Harris, Brick, Moore, Wilkerson, Cro, Landry and Kerley? With a maybe to Coples,Ellis, Davis, McIntyre, Maybin and Hill (in the hope they can develop) Some may add Keller to that mix, I wouldn’t.

Disappointed, disenchanted, disillusioned, dissatisfied, disgusted, discouraged and concerned! (;-( Now, on to the NY Jets. SCNY, you are 1000% right re: “elite” coaches. Problem is a 1 in a 100 ratio would be about right. Peyton Manning took his team to a SB with a average “at best” HC in 2009. In 2010 that same exact team with that exact same HC (less Peyton Manning) won 2 or 3 games. That is reality, That tells you all you need to know about “elite” players vs. “elite” HCs. Bottom line, I just don’t see another HC out there who would make a difference with this supporting cast. If Johnson could convince Parcells to come back as HC and GM, I would be all over that.

Nice try Ira the Hawks have a great D and are tough at home and the Jets go to the West coast were they have a hard time. Sanchize-Not is in for a long day and the Hawks will blow them out.
This team is 3-8 over their last 11 and Sanchize-Not has been brutal during that stretch.
Funny how Rex was voted the most over rated coach in the NFL he is also the worst talent evaluater in the NFL by my estimation.

Tom 8 -8 just might but i think 9-7 should as long as the Colts and Fish lose a couple more games and i think they will.
If the Jets are to win this week and i am saying they will its going to be because of the D. Wilson has not thrown an INT at home yet and is due for a poor game especially if Rex can throw some looks at him to confuse him. They must however control Lynch keep him at the 80-90 yd mark and not let him run wild for 150 plus and they will win.

scjoe: I didn’t mean to neglect the elite QBs associated with winning coaches but QBs are not the only thing. Looking past the QB, sorry Dan Marino, but quality coaches bring more to the table. Player evaluation, motivation, and the ability to identifyand PLAY second tier players in a successful way.Jetblue: I’ve been saying forever that from the scouts on up changes are made. The scouts and management are not doing their job finding players. Now is this incompetence or poor plans it doesn’t matter. Just another change that needs to happen. Isn’t it sad that with a half season to play many are already figuring how losses by other teams will mean better success for Jets. How about the Jets win and not count on other teams being worse.

So..let me get this straight…two weeks ago Sanchez and Tebow were among the most overrated players in the NFL…This week Rex Ryan was voted as a overrated coach..mmmmm…2+2=4. Rex wants to fix this mess, well start with running game. Start Mcknight and Powell…let greene come in on 3rd and short. Use more 2 TE sets with cumberland/keller. Use tebow inside the 10. The NYJ Def. doesn’t have a big NT like Big Jenks anymore so use a 4-man front. Let the speed guys stay on the field Maybin-Davis-McIntrye. Going to have to bring in Landry in the box. Tony Garica I couldn’t agree with you more, if this season is a wash…start the kid from Bama..let’s see what he’s got.
