Rex’s Hat Will Make a Statement for NY/NJ Region Today

Posted by Randy Lange on November 11, 2012 – 3:17 pm

Jets head coach Rex Ryan will be wearing a different gameday baseball cap than he usually wears when he patrols the sidelines during today’s Jets-Seahawks game at CenturyLink Field. It’s a black hat with a logo that reads: “NJ/NY STRONG.”

“I’m going to wear this hat at the game on behalf of our organization,” Ryan told reporters when he first donned the new headgear for his Friday news conference at the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center.  “Basically, it’s just to let people know, especially people in our region that were affected by Hurricane Sandy that our thoughts and prayers are with them.

“Hopefully they’ll see this hat on the sideline and they’ll understand that we’re with them and thinking about them, and also that we’re representing our region when we go up there and play this game. If they can get something encouraging out of our performance, that certainly motivates us and drives us as well.”

This past Thursday, Jets owner Woody Johnson said the Jets are donating $500,000 to the relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which two weeks ago devastated the New Jersey/New York area, and that the Green & White are dedicating their Thanksgiving night game against New England at MetLife Stadium to helping and honoring all those affected by the storm.

The Jets year might turn out to be lousy but let’s put to rest the coples and gholston comparisons, coples has already done more in his rookie year then TARZAN could ever dream of.

Ira,how did everything break for the jets this week.

I will never understand how Kerley is not used as a slot guy more and used more on the outside against stronger and taller corners, the further he goes down the field the less you see of him being that he is 5’9.Totally against how he was used in college with Andy Dalton.can the jets ever isolate him on a linebacker or safety where his quickness can be utilized,he is more quick then fast.

Jetfantom and Scjoe will love to hear this,MCELROY’S TIME HAS COME.

Well, Well, Well! First Spicer, now GaryC. Is there anyone left out there on Sanchez island? Besides Rex, Tbum and Woody that is? I can’t possibly imagine anyone else not insane being there. What a price to pay just to save face. Admit it was a mistake of biblical proportions, cut your losses, and try to put a product out there that Jet fans can actually bear to watch. It is mind boggling for me to understand exactly what is going on in the collective minds of the NY Jets brain thrusts. Gary, “so it shall be written, so it shall be done” I HOPE!

This hat was sick! Anyone know where I can get one?

Scjoe,I for one never do knee jerk reactions,I even told JetFanTom,let’s see how this year plays out, unfortunately it has played out with with seven games left,When McElroy was drafted I said he could be this generations Bart Starr, being more brains then athletic ability and coming from Alabama, another reason,he was coached by Nick Saban, who can run circles around Rex and Sparano.the proof is in the pudding when it comes to McElroy,at least he has won SOMETHING.

s.c.jOE, as usual, you said it all! I notice IRA has not shown up here yet today.Cant say I blame him as he always tries to find a positive to post about. The only positive I can see coming out of this latest “debacle” is that even Woody must be wondering how bad this can get? Going back to games 15 & 16 of last year, throughout this pre-season and this seasons first 9 games we are 3-12 & the offence is offensive! You coined our pre-season games as “debacles” & what we are witnessing now is basically more debacles. The problem is there is no light at the end of the tunnel as apparently Tebow has a 10 million kicker in his contrat based on playing time so you can forget that happaning.

tebow or mcelroy cant possibly be worse than mark the bust…nobody is in charge

Trade both Sanchez and Tebow, fire Mr T and Rex, let the new GM and HC pick the QB they want to draft high, then let that draft pick fight it out with McElroy in a Wilson/Flynn-type scenario. Anything less is just shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

I would like a few hats also where can I get some…Jets should sell them and give some of the money to the people in need of Hurricane relief help

Ron, a couple of points just jump out reading your post above, 1- 3 and 12 over the past 15 games is simply not acceptable for any pro team, not in today’s market! 2- There is no light at the end of the tunnel! That one speaks volumes even with a FO that is competent, imagine one that is not? I can see this team going in to the 2013 season with Mark Sanchez as it’s starting QB again, based strictly on what they are paying him for his “services” that is about as sad as it can get for a long time, die hard Jet fan.

S.C.Joe, yeah, when you look at how we lost both the Giant & Dolphin games at the end of last season followed by 0-4 this pre-season (with the only t.d by the 3rd string Q.B) and our not so steller 3-6 so far this season you get a combined 3-12 record for that period. Unacceptable is an understatement to say the least. Hey,
i have no problem eating crow that I was wrong. I got on Joe’s case and differed with you & Tom 64 on the merrits of giving Sanchez a shot to prove himself. Really as he was under that new hideous contract its not like we had a choice anyway?
As Jet fans our concern now must be what do we have to look forward to? If Woody does not clean house you could be right about having at least one more season of mysery!

It’s what’s under Rex’s hat that needs to make the statement but as Steve Winwood sang on Traffic’s “Walking in the Wind,” “…but there again, your head’s got nothing in it, and by the way you left without your hat.”

Could it be that McElroy is being punished because he spilled the beans about last season’s locker room meltdown during an interview on an Alabama radio station?

  17. By Jet Fan Since '64 Tom of Few Words on Nov 14, 2012 | Reply

ron a, no one around the league’s paying attention to the Jets, they got nuthin’, nobody but a few young prospects (Kerley, Wilk) and a few vets (Holmes, Mangold, Revis) who’ll be on their last legs before this team is competitive unless massive changes are made in 2013. Howie D, if McElroy’s being punished that way it’s the dumbest move ever, though at this pt I wonder if Rex has any real say in the QB situation. Even he couldn’t be this clueless in the face of Sanchez and Tebow’s inadequacies.

The NY/NJ hat is just another attempt to hide the fact about the poor team that is the 2012 NY Jets! If your prized QB is not cutting it, then lets try a backup QB…what have we got to lose at this point? Sanchez is NOT cutting it, this is very obvious. The NYJ are the laughing-stock of the entire league, what a circus! The Jets lose to the Rams this week…

GARY C, your kidding about Coples right? he has done little to convince me he is much if any better than Gholston to this point. O.k, he has 2 sacks in 9 games?both were coverage sacks where the Q.b held the ball too long. The guy so far has been what the scouting report sais he was, a big guy with potential who takes too many plays off. sorry dude but I’m not ready to proclaim him a success at this point.
