I for one do not believe the jets are playoff contenders and that is why McElroy needs to play the rest of this year to see if he can be a starter if possible next year,Do not believe this theory that his arm is to weak to make the throws,The Drew Brees template tells me otherwise,Brees not having a cannon himself.give me a Rhodes scholar candidate who can decipher a defense over a quarterback who throws the ball thru a brick wall. Also a guy who wins a national title means the stage isn’t to big for him to succeed.Quarterbacking at Alabama is more pressure then quarterbacking the jets,if you know college football.Rex for once make a decisive decision quick and let him get the reps this week, you have nothing to lose except maybe another game

MS was horrible as usual. Until they put McElroy in he then led the Jets to their only points of the day McElroy then impressived me with a ten point drive he completed 5 of 7 passes for 29 yards. GaryC I agree with you on the strength of a QB’s arm. I also feel they should leave him in for the remainder of the season and let him get the expierence he will need for next year. I liked the way he played for Alabama. The defense played excellent today and for some reason in the 4th quarter the running came to life with McElroy as QB which was a bif factor also. I had to laugh the way McElroy was running all over the field to get his first TD ball. I hope REX will give this kid a start next week so he can finally be evealuated….

Pretty prescient on your part, GaryC, if not downright psychic! Even I doubted whether Skelton and Mc would come in for the 2nd half (in a post that it looks like Randy isn’t going to print). I particularly like your points about Mc’s smarts, the Brees comparison (though even Rex admits that Mc’s working on his arm strength, and I disagree about Brees’ arm, which is cannon-like enough and crazy accurate), and his winning a national title. Indeed, I like just about everything about Mc that this team has been ignoring since about an hour after we drafted him.

GARY C, well said! I think you make great points here today.Brian Billick, formerly the Ravens H.C spoke about Mc working hard during the offseason to improve his arm strength. I dont think he’s any threat to R.G 3 in terms of arm strength but his arm looked more than adaquate to me. Not only did he put good zip on a couple of throws but they were on time & most importantly on the money!Sanchez on the other hand broke a cardinal rule “never throw late over the middle” on his first two int’s.to Rhoades. In his defence the 3rd int was an unbelievable play by Peterson & a not so great play by Schilens who should have gone up stronger for the ball.
