Re the “futility” of this org, Joe, I agree with you not only about elite QBs but elite anything in the way of players as well as quality GMs and HCs. I’ve been telling people on this site for 2 yrs that Revis was dropping hints that he’s outta here if we don’t get a QB — now the entire D, including the DC, wants out! Any backpedaling about “Mark,” Rex, or whatever is sheer nonsense and Woody has to resist it. He either has to turn this whole team upside down or sell it to somebody who will. When you see the Jets winning the way Brady/P Manning and Wilfork/Dumervial are now, you’ll know we’re worth taking seriously again, not before.

64, How true your words are. I just wanted to go on record as this is my preferred plan of action. Lord only knows what will actually happan.We as Jet lifers will more than likely support this tem no matter what. I am hearing on the radio and reading in the local papers a lot of talk of Woody giveing Tanney & Rex one more year to fix this mess.To me that means one more bad draft(unless anyone really thinks Coples & Hill are future stars?I am skeptical to say the least.)
I hope what I am hearing is wrong but the next month will be compelling tomes for us Jet wacko’s!

I agree with you about getting a young QB and grooming him to be elite, Ronbo19. Problem is, historically in these situations the Jets go for the Esiasons, the O’Donnells. and the Favres, dreaming they can go all the way with such guys when the team, as Lombardi said the other day, isn’t close to being close to winning big. And with the SB on our turf in 2014, it’s hard to see Woody putting Cousins on a 3-yr-plan especially when some, like Rex, were ready to give Sanchez a 6-yr-plan! So while I’ll be happy to see Mr T, Rex, Sparano, MS, TT, and much of the roster gone as early as 12/31, I see no evidence yet that the long-term, draft-based makeover we need is on the way. And Joe’s right, GaryC, the teams with the elite QBs win the SB.

It looks like the QB carousel will be turning once again for our Jets. I hate it for Sanchez. He seems to be a good guy, but he just hasn’t developed the way I’d hoped he would. I am glad to see Rex giving G-Mac a chance to show what he’s got…I just wish he had stuck with it after the Arizona game. Any thoughts on bringing in Matt Moore? I read something yesterday about how he would come with a pretty low price tag for what he could bring. I have been impressed in the few games I’ve watched Moore play. I would stay away from drafting a QB. We should focus on the OL, LBs, WR and RB positions this year.

All good pts, JetBlu, but take heart — all Cimini said is that if Rex updates his view on O past 1938 (I’m supplying the yr), he DESERVES another chance, not that he’s necessarily going to get one. My sense is that Woody is so furious that his expensive toy has the worst starting QB in the NFL of the last few yrs that he’s going to go after a QB and let all the other chips fall where they may, including Rex. I doubt the folks posting here are the only ones who don’t think the next QB can be trusted to Rex.

Byrdman, agree 100% about “systems” especially in NE. Also agree Sparano is a one and done OC, that move ranks right up there with Sanchez, Hill, Gholston, Ducasse, Wilson, Greene, well, you get the idea. As for Cousins? As I stated to Ron, he is young, he is talented, he has upside, and most of all he is cap friendly, something this team has to consider in any and all transactions they make going forward.I think he is an immediate upgrade who has the “potential” to be a quality QB (with the right coaching)

Kleckofan, agree with most everything you said above, especially the WRs as they relate to the quality of their QBs. The problem with Tannenbum however could get complicated, he has three years left on his contract. Not sure how Johnson handles all the lopsided contracts given out to incompetent players and FO officials after the season. That could be a dreadful sticking point.

The bottom line here guys is that drafting a qb or any other skill player is a crap shoot. There have been a lot of first round busts as we all know and there have been guys who have make it coming out of lower rounds. To me, the skill of a teams scouting is to find the talent in these low rounds. Spicer, the Seahawks would never, ever, trade Flynn straight up for Sanchez, even though they both have ridicules contracts. The Jets would have to sweeten the pot with either a draft pick, a player, or by paying a large portion of Sanchez 2013 salary. I wouldn’t want it to be a draft pick. Unfortunately, I think Sanchez last few starts sealed his fate, I just don’t see a market.

S.CJoe & 64, Lets look at this another way. The Mets finally woke up and realized they were not winning anything in 2013. Because they hired a” Man with a plan” they were able to trade a pitcher who partisapates in only 32 games a year for a young catcher(the hardest posisition to fill) who hits, plays great defence and is 16 years younger.This catcher will be hitting his stride when it matters and the Mets are ready to contend.I dont want a stop gap guy, I want a guy to build around like R.G.3. Cousins might be that guy. It appears he will start again this week so we should keep an eye on him.Of course its the jets organization who should be doing that but who knows who will be here next year?

64, sure Cousins can turn into the next Kolb or Gabbert, he can also turn into the next Wilson, Luck or RGIII. There are no guarantees. That can also be said about ANY rookie QB taken or any b/u with no body of work. As I mentioned above to Ron, the other factor that you have to consider is cap space, that decreases the amount of options you have. Cousins is cap friendly, he is young, he has a year of NFL experience and a few starts as well. He has the intangibles needed and is a little less of a risk then drafting a QB. But again, bottom line, there are no guarantees!

Ron, as much as we both know that the bar needs to be set much higher, there are other factors to consider, such as the salary cap mess Tannenbum has left this team with. So yes, I would also love to bring in that ultra elite QB and solve a lot of problems all in one signing, but that just aint gonna happen. You have to be realistic, at least for the short term, that is why I mention names like Flynn, Moore, maybe Cousins or Henne. Guys that can fit under the cap and still bring a major upgrade to the position. (for now) My hope is they can sign a high mid round pick to develop into that long term answer at QB they desperately need.

When your QB is, to put it nicely, sub-par, it is difficult to get a read on your WRs, I think Kerley is a legit slot guy, Hill should be given a chance; the rest could be jettisoned (no pun). Keller kept situationally.Good QBs make good WR’s

Keep McKnight & Bilal. Keep Nick & Brick. The rest of the O is wide open.

On D: keep Mo, Devito, McIntyre, Harris, Cro, Landry. I hate to say it, but picks for Revis is the right move for a team w so many needs.

Tanny should be fired now so as to begin the new era and send a message that incompetance will not be tolerated. How could it possibly help to keep him for any length of time? I would allow Rex to stay as DC, but that rarely happens; the ego is too big to stay where you’ve been demoted.

64 & S.C.Joe, i am enjoying your back & forth on the need for a big play W.R. Here’s my 2 cents’; while as always you both make compelling points, the fact is next years Q.B will probably not be Payton,Drew,Aaron,Brady(unless its Quinn)or even Eli, Lets assume its gonna be a young neophyte who will need all the help he can get. Without getting into specific names because the nameswill change before the draft, Contrary to what I’m seeing in the moc drafts I believe there are 4 or 5 recievers who could be difference makers. In addition,there will also be 3 or 4 f/a’s who could be available that would clearly upgrade that posisition for us.64 is right about the w.r.posisition being 2nd only to Q.B as this is now a passing league.

Scjoe – I liked Cousins coming out of MSU, was hoping somehow he’d slip and we’d grab him, but…Looks to me like the Father/Son coaching system in Wash. has got something over there. RG3 is a freak but when Kirk played they hardly missed a beat. Sometimes… its the SYSTEM. When Warner left the Rams the offense was a machine, they plugged in Mark Bulger and kept scoring 35 -40 a game. Flynn steps in for Rodgers – same story. NE created the myth of Matt Cassell who looked good for a minute in KC. Further back in history, think about the 49ers going from Montana to Young. Championship Caliber Offensive System. Tony Sparrano looks more like a Quarterback Killer than a QB’s best friend.

Wow ! Tons of unsubstantiated Rumors and random Speculation this week about the Jets future in the wake of the latest Sanchez implosion. Wonder if we’re witnessing an evolution of the NFL QB position happening before our eyes? I’m seeing these unconventional but athletic hybrid guys putting up Madden XBOX numbers. Is the era of the 6’5″ cannon armed pocket QB slowly fading? OR, is it teams like the Redskins, Seahawks, and 49ers have great OC’s and have built a system around their “running” QB’s? Or does a Tall , Fast, Athletic, Runner with Bigtime Arm like Colin Kaepernick represent the FUTURE of the position? Something for us to consider in next years draft.

scjoe, what I saw and see in Hill is that he’s an unproven rookie and Schilens is a proven backup at best, but the pt goes well beyond the 2 of them. And your fears of drafting even 1 more WR highly, much less a bunch of them, goes to my pt. Any team that’s in it these days has firepower at QB and WR. Talk of “D wins championships” is nonsense because anything can happen in 1 SB, but you still need to excel in about 20 games to get to the SB and even then, the teams that win make the big passing plays in the SB — ask Eli. So frankly I don’t care if the Jets pick a WR #2 and #4 every yr for the next 3 yrs. Wake me up when we can come back in a game like NE did vs SF or win a game like SF won that one, till then we’re an outdated joke!
