Jets-Bills: First-Half Tweets

Posted by Randy Lange on December 30, 2012 – 2:33 pm

Here are today’s first-half tweets for the Jets-Bills game at Ralph Wilson Stadium, in case you missed them on Twitter. Follow Bob Wischusen, Eric Allen and me for our tweets during each Jets game on https://twitter.com/nyjets.

#RL Jets gameday captains: G Brandon Moore, DT Mike DeVito, T D’Brickashaw Ferguson, WR Jordan White, CB Darrin Walls

#RL Shonn Greene has 17 yards on 3 carries, has reached 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight season.

#RL Nick Folk 47-yd FG is good. Folk now 19-for-24 on season, 11-for-13 career vs BUF. Jets lead 3-0…

#RL Jets have 2 TDs, 2 FGs on 16 opening drives this season.

#EA Entering Week 17, teams averaged 5.1 a carry on the Bills D. Jets ran 9 times on that 1st drive for 42 yards — a 4.7 average.

#RL Jets lead the NFL with 27 inside-the-20 kickoffs but ex-Jet Brad Smith doesn’t cooperate, going 27 yds on KO return to BUF 31.

#RL With BUF punt, Jets opponents have gone their last 6 opening drives w/o scoring a point. (4 TDs, 2 FGs on 16 opening drives overall.)

#RL LB Bryan Scott nabs Mark Sanchez pass, goes 20 yds for BUF TD. 2nd INT-return TD vs. Sanchez this season, 7th in his career.

#RL Lex Hilliard’s first catch in 6 games goes for 7 yds on 3rd-and-7 for 1st down at BUF 44 as 1st qtr comes to an end.

#EA Giveaways have been a problem the entire season. The Jets now have 36 and that was the 19th INT.

#RL Nick Folk 2-for-2 on FGs today, although his 23-yarder just got over the crossbar after tip by Alex Carrington. Folk on year: 20-for-25.

#EA Powell almost equaled a career-long with that 18-yard run. He had a 19-yarder vs. the Cards on Dec. 2.

#EA With 51 yards on the ground, Greene is up to 1,040. He needs only 15 yards to set a career-high (1,054 in 2011).

#RL Bilal Powell 33-yard reception wiped out by Austin Howard hold. So Jeremy Kerley goes 40 yds on third-and-16…

#RL Jets’ longest 3rd-down conversion on a pass play since Mark Sanchez-to-Braylon Edwards for 34 yds on 3rd-and-21 @ MIA in 2009.

#RL Nick Folk 28-yd FG gives Jets 9-7 lead. Folk’s first 3-FG first half since 2010 Game 5 vs. MIN.

#RL CJ Spiller 66-yd TD catch/run longest reception by opposing RB in road game since Fred Taylor 72 yds w/ Mark Brunell pass @ JAX ’02.

#RL Jets CB Donnie Fletcher has hamstring injury, his return to this game is questionable.

#RL Jets hold edges in yards (204-132), 1st downs (13-4), possession (23:04-6:46) but Bills have 14-9 halftime lead.

#RL Jets’ 23:14 first-half possession time is their most in 1st half since 2009 “Win and We’re In” Game 16 vs CIN (24:50).

I don’t understand Rex’s mentality. I sware he still thinks the Jets have a chance at the playoffs, why else would he be so conservative with the play calls the last two weeks. Take some chances… go for it on 4th and goal the 4… give us something to watch, these games are so boring. I don’t care that we have nothing to play for. I want to see my Jets play and I’m going to watch if we are 4-12 or 12-4, but stop being so sluggish. If Sanchez is going to burn himself let him go down in flames in this last game throwing it so no one is with out a doubt that Sanchez is not the future

Rex, you could have thrown Tebow in to make it somewhat of an interesting watch. Man, is Sanchez bad or what? The formula is clear. Just look at what they did in Washington, Indy, Denver, seattle, even Cinncy. Go get a real quarterback no matter what it takes. Stop it with the Chad henne, Moore and whatever other inepts you hear people wish for. Go Get a real QB.

Mr. Johnson, time for Rex Ryan to go. Jets won’t be Super Bowl contenders with the general manager and coach you have. This year has been a fiasco not only w wins and losses but decision making, character, leadership judgment. You and Jet fans deserve better. Rex is commited to his ego before principles or team success.

I shoulda known Sanchez couldn’t leave without playing a classic “Sanchez game” and proving he’s the worst starting QB in the NFL today. Here’s what 18 INTs, 8 lost fumbles, and 8 games in which we scored 10 pts or less means: MS throws at least 1 INT per game, loses a fumble every other game, and other game we score 10 pts or less. That has to amount to one of the very worst yrs ever on O for the Jets, a team that originally found its identity under SB winner Joe Namath, who before massive injuries made it hard for him to even stand up was a threat to score a game-stretching TD on any given play. Anyone who thinks this edition of the Jets, and Rex in particular, represents this franchise in any honorable way is either a faux fan or insane.

well, if you can find good news in another Mark Sanchez loss, this would be it, the Jets have jumped at least 2 teams so far (1:00pm games) in the 2013 draft, Tampa and Carolina, they can still jump SD and Arizona if each of those win later on. As for this latest debacle? Just another typical Mark Sanchez game, no surprises, INTs, fumbles, inaccurate passes, and looking totally lost in the pocket. Hey Mike T, here’s an idea, give Mr Sanchez another extension and double his salary!

Woody Johnson was not at the game. This is the first one he missed that I know of. Ominious ? Some owners will take alot but ALL owners will not accept a coach whose team quit on him. The Jets quit on Ryan. Nothing the Jets do now will surprise me as the never do the logical thing. Instead of firing T-baum there is the possibilty that there will be some kind of divsion of GM duties. A typical dumb Jet move that won.t work..If the GM is bad enought to have his duties divided he is bad enought to be fired. No band-aids, or half measures, or “punting ” do what has to be done, do it fast so the people don.t dangle in uncertainty, and do it in away that leaves them with some dignity intact This is old school Mr.Johnson.

So get this…You bench your starting QB who you just gave a huge multi-year extension to because he is terrible. You than start your 3rd string QB who never even dressed all year instead of your #2 backup you just traded draft picks for because HE is terrible. Than your 3rd string QB plays terrible, gets creamed and injured so the 1st string QB has to start again and guess what he plays terrible… because ? . what ?…. you guessed it … you can’t start your #2 QB because he is terrible. Only the Jets could so screw up the QB position like this, no other team could come close. Why do you have a #2 QB anyway ? Why don’t you just have a #1 AND a #3. Lets just eliminate the #2 league wide. Make sense ?

Well folks we pick between 8 and 11 let’s hope they don’t draft another Sanchez. I sure am glad that I decided to go shopping with my wife than have to watch another disaster. My son was texting me during the game and even though I wasn’t watching I still called the pick for a td and of course his obligatory fumble. But then again any of us fans knew that would happen.
Anyway let’s see what happens off season is bound to be real interesting. I suspect we won’t recognize the team next year. My guess is any player who is becoming a free agent won’t want to play here so that leaves lot of holes. One thing we can agree on we need a new oc and qb coach that can work with a new qb whoever that may be. What a mess!!!!!

Finally we see the best of the best who after a brutal 16 game season prevailed in the brutal playoff games, played injured and beat up with pride and and guts and won. You get to see the best coached teams, disciplined and with some of the best QB’s who ever played the game. Interesting post on ESPN, not that I agree with all of it (and certainly not the Rex part): “Trade Revis for 2nd and 4th round picks. Draft: 1: OLB Dion Jordan 2: TE Zach Ertz 2a if you trade Revis: OT D.J Fluker 3: ILB Shayne Skov 4: QB Ryan Nassib 4a from trade of Revis: CB Tyrann Mathieu 5th-7th round: RB WR FB. Keep Rex, He is the right coach for this team, fire Sparano, hire Turner. demote Tanny, hire a GM. Sanchez needs to go, Bring in Alex Smith. OLB and G would be 2 biggest needs in FA, other needs: DT WR FB. Bye Bye to Pace Scott Thomas Moore Keller, Holmes is a possibility too.”

A fitting ending for the season, 2 Sanchez turnovers, without 2 kerley catches only 125 yards, and the signature Sporano 3 FGs. If the Jets insist on keeping Rex Tanny and Sporano had better lead the way of Jets and Jet personnel out of work in 2013.

Cimini also reports “Jets announce Rex to meet with media tomorrow at 4:45 PM EST” — great, hopefully it’s to resign.

  28. By Jet Fan Since '64 Ready for the Dream on Dec 30, 2012 | Reply

Of course, the OTHER possibility — the possibility so GREAT that it didn’t even fully occur to me at a first glance at Cimini’s story — is that Woody has already told Rex’s he’s gone; Woody is planning his own press conference for tomorrow morning to announce that news along with any other changes (hopefully Mr T gone as well); and after Woody’s presser the team will make Rex available to the media at 4:45PM to say goodbye and clean out his office by 5, just in time for the evening news and sports shows. If that’s NOT it, why’s the team announcing Rex’s presser instead of him? If that IS it, Christmas comes a week later but better than ever! And in which case I’ll be the first to say GO (NEW 21ST-CENTURY EDITION OF THE ) JETS!

This was the most embarrassing season ever. Time to start over, and since this team cannot be fixed in 1 year, bring Sanchez back since that is the only option that does not kill the team’s salary cap situation and go after another top 10 pick next year. Hopefully in 2 years a decent QB will fall to us. I know no one will agree with a “stink for luck”..type of year (to say it nicely), but dumping Sanchez and paying someone else to come in at QB will only hurt this team’s ability to sign players like Landry and Revis.

It will be interesting to see what transpires now that the season has ended…With the #9 pick in the draft, there are many holes to fill. I told you folks in the yr Revis held out that the D was getting tired of playing on a team that can’t score and that eventually, Revis and other D players were gonna wanna leave for that reason. But we’re gonna trade Revis, right? Well, Cromartie is picking up the beat right on time: “That’s the only way you can sum it up,” Cromartie said. “You go out, and for one, we can’t score points. Guys turn over the ball. Those are some of the things you can’t do in this business. This is a win-first business, and we’ve got to do everything we can to try to win games.”

I see that on the Post and News polls, sentiment to dump Rex is running 65-70%,but on the ESPN poll it’s 65-70% to keep him. DUH, folks, what does this tell ya? That those of us in New York or from New York or who are otherwise Jet fans are done with Rex, but those of us who root for 1 of the other 31 teams hope he’ll stay so that we’ll be terrible forever. Makes perfect sense…

  35. By Jet Fan Since '64 Ready for the Dream on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

I’m reprinting this post of mine from the now-buried “Some Naughty” story: Actually, Joe, with some Jet fans, like sometimes with Karan and Spicer about Sanchez or even scjoe about Rex, it’s like this: Minimally talented disappointments like MS and Rex are a bit like the girl or guy who keeps cheating or physically abusing or drinking or whatever but who SOMEHOW, by some weird, contrived twist of logic or misplaced empathy or whatever, still deserves another chance. I don’t play that stuff, I just see IND, SEA, WASH, and even CIN and MIN turning into winners in only a few yrs on the backs of new QBs and HC’s. As long as a lot of Jet fans are afraid of that kind of change, we’ll always have owners, GMs, and HCs who take advantage of us…

  36. By Jet Fan Since '64 Ready for the Dream on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Finally — and then I’m going to sleep to awaken to tomorrow’s good news — this will show some of you how far away we truly are from overtaking any of the really good teams. Rounding up at .5, this yr the Pats’ avg game was a 35-21 win. The Broncos’ avg game was a 30-18 win. Our avg game was a 23-18 loss. For those of you in the “D wins championships” camp, only 21 and 18 pts a game yielded to opponents is plenty of D. 17.5 pts a game, though, ain’t much O, in fact it’s about the 5th lowest avg in the league. And just for those still trying to deny the elite QB factor, the QBs on the Pats and the Broncos are about as elite as you can get. Ours is elite, too…in Rex’s mysterious universe…

Note to any idiot pundit, experts,or so called scouts out there. Alfred Morris just led his team to the first title in 13 yrs with a 200 yrds and 3 TD preformanace. A 6th rounder. Yeah you “scouted ” him and reported on him and speculated on him and measured him and looked at his hands and had him as a 6 th rounder. This is just one of many examples of why in reality you are just a bunch of self important idiots. Jets take notice they are out there you just have to wade through knee deep … stuff.. to find them. Don’t let other people do YOUR thinking.

  38. By Bennett on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Man if I was the owner I would want the scouting reports on Alfred Morris. I would be how come we couldn’t draft him in the 6TH ROUND. They just got lucky ? I don’t think so. Anyway if we HAD drafted him IN THE 6TH ROUND. T-baum probably would have just ordered Ryan to cut him to save some money. I just gave them a tip on another Alfred Morris waiting in the wings a kid named Maysonet. Meanwhile in the real world Alfred Morris broke the record for the Redskins for the most rushing yards in a season over guys like John Riggins & Clinton Portis to name a few. They are also the #1 rushing team in the entire NFL & RG3 has a Mark Sanchez like 3,200 passing yards & only 20 passing TDS. LOL this guy needs to go to the store & buy a clue!

Case in point we got to two champ. games WITH SANCHEZ, the first one when he was this horrible rookie for—– sakes. No one knows better than me how the game has changed ( for the worse ) to favor the QB. You forget what happens when your one man team gets injured ala the Colts you win 2 games. What GREAT news!!! Number 1 on my hit list is officially gone!! Next up #2 Mark Sanchez! That was step # 1 in turning this franchise around, glad Woody had the insight to acknowledge that. Now, with the #9 pick in the draft they need to concentrate on the three positions I have been talking about for months, if not years, a quality QB, RB, and OLB. Don’t know who the next GM will be, but I do know that no matter who it is it will be an upgrade. Glad to see that Rex is staying, I know some don’t agree, but realistically, the main culprit through all of this is now history

  52. By SCfromNY on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

A good start: Tanny gone! Hopefully more to follow. A new GM mandated to produce a winning team will not want Rex. I was a huge Rex fan for his brashness and humor. Unfortunately he is a clueless HC. I wish he could put his ego aside and return as DC. His loyalty to old players on the downside is admirable as a person but not a HC. His determination to “ground & pound” in a pass happy, high scoring league is another example of his stuborn refusal to change. The HC is important in selecting FAs and draft choices. Rex’s inability to determine ability and potential is a huge negative. The Steelers have had the same DC forever. Being a head coach is just beyond some. Like his father, sarcasm and charm can only go so far.

Preseason started 0-4, Jets couldn’t even score, we all knew from that day forward that the Jets were going to stink, and yes everything was true. The Jets make the most awful trades and pick ups, stop picking up guys that don’t have it anymore. The way I look at it is this way, There’s no i in teamwork, the Jets don’t play as a team, this starts from the top and works it’s way downhill, So the Jets did right by canning the GM now Woody needs to step up to plate and get rid of Rex and Sparano, and Sanchez, and then go from there. I know a lot of people believe the damage is beyond repair. I do not. I just take a look at the three teams that are going to the playoff’s this year with rookie QBs. (Wash, Indy, Seattle) and where they were last year. It can be done, it can be done quickly. It begins with a sharp and competent FO. So, lets all stay tuned before we hit the panic button.

Dead on Ron, for anyone to think it was the WRs, the O Line, or the OC, instead of the QB, was either watching a different team then we were, or they are in some alternate universe where no one can do no wrong. Mark Sanchez should thank his lucky star that NFL contracts are written the way they are, or at least the way Mike Tannenbaum writes them.

Bennett is absolutely right on the blame game , and pointing fingers . ( It’s like the obama regime ) …I would agree the o line is terrible though . That is the GMs responsibilty . Sanchez could have been alot better with some blocking , and a running game …Now Sanchez has taken so many hits I think his brain is rattled …Hopefully we could bring in Parcells as general manager .He will rebuild a front line that’s tough .. He sure could shop for the groceries !

BENNETT, your Alfred Morris post is spot on! Truthfully, I was thinking the exact same thing as I watched the Skins, skin the Cowboys. Romo is a lot like Sanchez, you can always count on a interception at the most inopportune time.Obviously, Romo has clearly accomplished a lot more positives statistically speaking, but you just knew he would throw one to the Skins in that situation.just like he did vs. us last year when they had us beat late. STEVE SC, excellent post. I too am very excited to hear what the gang here will have to say in the coming months. Sadly, most of the intellegent conversation concerning our Jets occures here on Randy’s Radar rather than the local papers. Cant wait to hear what Manesh (conf.source)Mehta has to say next

Ok Woody lets get this straight….you fire Tannenbaum and you keep Ryan. Tanny has to be beside himself. When Mangini was here Tanny did a great job bringing talent to the team with Mangini’s help and input. Ryan shows up and wins with Mangini’s guys including Shotty/Calahan combo.
Rex then gets involved in the personel end of things and brings in Sparano drafts Sanchez and all these defensive players in the last three drafts and the team implodes during that process. Tanny gives Rex the staff and players he wants and Tanny gets fired. This is nothing short of hilarious. Rex Ryan is one of the worst HC’s in the NFL especially in evaluating and developing talent besides all the negative attention this team receives and he remains unscathe

  64. By Frank on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

This has to be strictly a financial decision but hopefully more a wait and see who he hires as a GM and then makes a decision on Ryan that would make more sense. Ryan has proven he is in way over his head as a HC.
Woody I will say it again you need to hire Eric Decosta he is the guy. Hire me I will get you the right guys to turn this thing around.

  65. By Frank on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

The more I think about it I think Woody is going about this the right way. He is looking or using a consulting firm to look for the right guy to run the organization. It only makes sense that the new GM hire is own coach so while Ryan is still the coach I have to believe once Woody decides on a GM they will make the decisions on the coaching staff. Notice Sparano is still employed that should prove my point. 64 try not to committ suicide yet.

  66. By Byrdman on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

I’ll be more optimistic about the teams future when the new GM is announced. Everything I hear about Tannenbaum is that he’s a “numbers guy” and a “Yes Man” and never had a long term plan for constructing a SB caliber team. If you look at the drafts and player acquisitions under Tbomb it’s evident that he did what he was told to do by Woody and by the revolving list of HC’s THIS IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER in the NFL.
I’m encouraged that Woody fired Tanny – finding a qualified replacement will be hindered by Ryan’s presence obviously. Weird that Woody has hired an outside firm to find his new GM ??

Goodbye T-baum. You left us with a terrible startng QB, (who had to be benched for a 3rd stringer), that you gave a huge untradeable contract to. You left us without a # 2 QB, with a decimated reciever core,an O line that is a shell of its former self, absolutley no team depth and a cap mess we will be paying for for years to come. You leave a demoralized, beaten team who gave up 3 weeks ago and ended the season with its tail between it legs. I have never seen a GM do so much damage to a team in such a short period of time. Good ridance

From ESPN: “The talent decline in New York stemmed from an organizational philosophy that put them in “go for it” mode rather than building the team in the mold of other successful NFL franchises. [YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN! -- my note] The 2 constants with the best regular season teams, as well as recent Super Bowl winners, is the presence of a franchise QB paired with a roster that’s built through strong drafting,” Palazzolo writes. “The Jets have neither, and the results have manifested in a 6-10 record. Look no further than the 2009 and 2010 drafts that netted only 7 total players.” Yes, firing Mr T is half a loaf but Rex will be gone by mid-2013 unless the new GM does most of what many of us have been calling for for yrs so I’ll take it.

  69. By Jet Fan Since '64 Ready for the Dream on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Actually, Ronbo, I was wrong about Sanchez too, but I blame it partly on Rex, which is one of the reasons I want him gone. MS looked utterly ordinary to me at USC, a guy who didn’t throw that well, especially long, didn’t beat many tough teams, and didn’t play in any cold weather. Then Rex ran his mouth non-stop about how he could make all the throws, he looked great throwing on an empty high school field in Mission Viejo, and when he looked okay in his 1st 3 or 4 games I bought in. By the time he looked exactly like he does now in the 1st half of the PIT playoff, I knew he probably wasn’t the guy. Now we all know he’s not the guy, so it’s a step forward for Rex to have do his job without leaning on Mr T, “Mark,” and other mediocrities.

I also agree with the idea, which I see on the Westhoff story and of course on other sites, that a new GM won’t keep Rex, Sanchez, or a heck of a lot of these other non-entities we’re currently suffering with. I’d LOVE to see Woody wake up in a few wks (hrs?) and say guess what, nobody wants to run this team in the face of my “loyalty” to Rex. Rex’s boast last wk that “Loyalty is a good thing” only shows how limited his thinking is. Yes, in your personal life, loyalty is a good thing but even there the question is LOYALTY BASED ON WHAT?! On a football team, your loyalty should be to the guys who PLAY THE BEST not the guys that you LIKE THE BEST for one weird personal reason or the other…much less the guys you can’t admit are terrible…

A couple of possible candidats for the GM job posted on the Cimini blog include John Dorsey and Tom Gamble, looks like a good history with the Packers and 49ers, respectively. You never know, it could be worth looking at. If Sanchez comes back, they need a great OC to help him. Turner I hear is an excellent OC but terrible HC. I really wouldn’t mind having him on the team. Sanchez is fixable, he needs help right now and needs to gain the confidence he once had, the confidence he had in the playoffs at a point in his career. He’s been terrible as of late, but he’s still only 26 years old, still much to learn.

Notice how utterly UNsentimental Revis, one of the only really blue-chip players we have and one of the only ones with any real leverage, is about Mr T, which is how he talks about Sanchez too: “CB Darrelle Revis (first-round pick in 2007): “In this business we get evaluated every week. It’s just the business side of it. He did great things for us the last couple of years, but I don’t know. [Translation: You DO know, he screwed up so he's gone -- my note] It’s really sad. You don’t want to see anybody get fired or anybody get cut or released in this manner, but it happens. GaryC – Good point about the Colt’s roster, Indi claims the roster turnover is 40,, Think about that! On their 53 man team 40 are brand new this year. Their 2012 draft is better than any draft in Jets history. QB Luck, reminds me of Elway, except that Luck was ready to rock right out of the box. RB Vic Ballard looks like a beast, did you see that ridiculous 360 roll in midair for a TD he had. Rookie TE Fleener’s a keeper, had a huge TD against Houston. TY Hilton torched the Texan secondary. Heck they’ve got rookies and second year guys making big plays for em on offense every week.
It’s a young mans game – Lets draft about 10 rookies this year and make Rex prove himself by getting 5 starters out of them.

“Anybody will be an upgrade over Tanny” Remember when we said that about Schotty and we got Sporano. Keeping Rex in any capacity where talent is evaluated is a poor choice.

Spicer; Still have a little love for Sanchez? Comparing to RGIII because the passing yards are similar? Few turnovers and running yards make him similar to Sanchez only in the fact they both wear helmets.

  90. By Byrdman on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

Scjoe – The NFL is set up for quick (one or two year) turnarounds. The 3 teams you mention did it by drafting QB’s that were NFL ready from day one. I’m seeing a trend these past 2-3 years where college QB’s are better prepared to play at the next level than they’ve been in the past. All the playoff teams this year are getting starters and value players all the way down to the 7th round. With the right draft savvy talent scout type GM the Jets could dump all their 10 year vets and overpaid free-agents and field a younger faster more exciting team next season. 2013 might be a transitional year, we may need a program to know who’s out on the field but it will be worth it IMHO.

Frank, I think you’re right and I see it the same way. If Woody REALLY wants a game-changing GM, he’s not going to tell him that he has to keep Rex, “Mark,” or anyone else. Problem is, Woody has often shown a tendency for the surface rather than the essence so for all we know he’s just going to hire another non-entity like Mr T. Spicer, please, anyone who spends a yr as bad as Sanchez’s in 2011 citing his worthless stats goes into the record books, you don’t get off so easy so quick. And your great memory is failing you if you don’t remember me after the PIT playoff saying that Sanchez’s fumble in the 1st half was key. I was sick of his fumbles then, you’re still trying to blame the OL for them, like you blamed the WRs for his awful throws!

Maybe Karan is a man AND a woman, i.e. maybe Karan’s two different people or at least personalities. First, on Sanchez: “He’s been terrible as of late, but he’s still only 26 years old, still much to learn.” Then, on the playoffs: “That Seahawks-Redskins game is going to be great. This new generation of mobile QBs who can actually throw the hall accuretly is really something special.” Guess what, Karan? WE could have a QB like one of the starters in the SEA/WAS game if fans like you would stop making excuses for “Mark,” Rex, and other jokes. And how do you think we’re ever gonna get a “great GM and OC” and make you happy if we don’t lose those guys? The theory that Karan is a blood relative of MS or Rex is still the most interesting one…

  100. By Jet Fan Since '64 Ready for the Dream on Dec 31, 2012 | Reply

SCfromNY, Spicer’s idea of “similar” is a little suspect, just like his habit in his Sanchez Mancrush days of counting rushing TDs to try to inflate “Mark’s” worth. As I recall without even leaving this site to check, MS threw for about 2500 yds his 1st yr with 12 TDs and 20 INTs. RG3 has thrown, if I’m not mistaken, for 3200 yds with 26 TDs and less than 10 INTs. So as usual, Spice sees what he wants to see…when he sees at all, that is. How he’s spent 4 yrs watching MS put the ball everywhere but where it’s supposed to be on short, medium, and long passes is still a mystery to me, as Fleetwood Mac’s Bob Welch once sang and RIP to you, Bob. Now let’s see if Woody can say RIP to this loser Jet team by way of a take-no-prisoners GM.

  115. By Tom Spicer on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply

Bennett, I am not trying to say RG3 is not good & in the future maybe a great player. The point I was trying to make was in regards to JOE CAPS saying that the Redskins are only winning because of RG3 when in reality. RG3 has had only a decent season numbers wise. The Redskins are winning cause Alfred Morris broke the record for a Redskin RB for rushing yards in a season beating out hall of famers yards wise & the Redskins are the #1 rushing team in the NFL. RG3 again numbers wise is average at best its not like he is throwing for 4,000 or 5,000 yards & 30 plus TDS.

  116. By Tom Spicer on Jan 1, 2013 | Reply

JOE CAPS, I can answer that question for Gary. RG3 made the pro bowl because it is a popularity contest. He was 22nd in passing yards & 19th in TD passes. So he did not deserve to go to the pro bowl. I can name 8 QBS in the NFC alone that should have gone before him.

I see no one on this site is fooled by the notion it’s going to be easy for Woody to get any good GM as long as he’s insisting that Rex stick around. Using your skills of pattern recognition, you might speculate that Woody’s very public enthusiasm for Tebow, which he obviously no longer feels, provides a template for his retaining Rex this yr and firing him next yr, maybe halfway thru the yr. Certainly that could happen if the new GM isn’t given the power to dump Sanchez, turn over the roster, and take no bull from Rex.

GARY C, Well I’m think’n you have to be happy about Monte Ball & Eartz ‘s play yesterday. For those of you who missed yesterdays Rosebowl the above mentioned guys cememted themselves as players on my Jet wish list. Ball reminds me so much of Curtis Martin not only for how he plays, but for his outstanding charachter as well. This is a kid who really gets it, and conducts himself in a manner to make any team proud. Eartz was originally listed as a distant 2nd on the experts draft lists to the kid from N.D who is also an outstanding talent. From what I’m hearing they are now running neck & neck for the #1 T.E.Many here minimize the importance of an impact T.E. but I ask you, would we not be a better team with a Gronkowskie of our own?

Tom 64, RG3 had 20 TDS not 26 good for 22nd in the NFL. So about 70% of the NFL had more TDS than him again so far AVERAGE!

  127. By GaryC on Jan 2, 2013 | Reply

Ron,yes,I still like Ball and Ertz, old time jet fans,Ertz reminds me of a bigger and Faster Mickey Shuler, and once he gets to a pro team he can get that weight up to 260 pounds on a 6’6 frame.Ball, who I mentioned to Scjoe, has great vision and really showed quickness on that touchdown run yesterday and a little power, also remember, people doubted Emmitt Smith,5’9 and a 4.7 forty and the guy became a hall of famer, small backs like Rice,Doug Martin seem to be in vogue nowadays.

  128. By the former ron alexander now Ronbo19 on Jan 2, 2013 | Reply

GARY C, Like you I was always a big Mickey Shuler fan as he was about as automatic on 3rd down as I can remember.(as long as it wasn’t 3rd & long as he was not that fast.) Ertz is a lot bigger & much more athletic as he often lines up at w.r. & is much faster. He is also a good blocker As for Montae Ball, he was 20 lbs heaver as a fros & soph, but has since become much quicker & shows a lot more wiggle at his current 216 lbs. I like him a lot as he has good hands out of the backfield is not afraid to pick up a blitzer & hits the hole much quicker than anyone currently on our roster. SPICER, R.G.3 Is so much more than a statistical passer._

SPICER,cont.- his value is the dual threat he presents to defences.Down the road he is gonna be a real problem as his comp.% will surley rise as he gains experience and doesn’t try to do it all himself. TOO ALL; the next week or two will be very interesting to all of us fanatics here in Jetville. Those wishing for Mangini for G.M, Michael Vick for Q.B or Vince Lombardi for H.C please try to keep it real.None of those things are gonna happan. my guess is we wind up with a young proven talent evaluator who is smart enough to realize we will not contend next year so its o.k to keep Rex so he can take the heat and the new G.can concentrate on upgrading the talent in this organization.

Spicer, yeah, 20 TDs and only 5 INTs and again, watch the games and see how RG3 plays, about 10 times smarter than Sanchez ever did. As for Karan’s gender, what is this, the Taliban? It’s a joke, dude, we’re still allowed to do that in this country. Go watch SHAMPOO or THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA or something and lighten up. That Kimberly Jones is the most honest writer about the Jets on Earth, it’s the 21st-century…oh yeah, I forgot, to paraphrase the great Ed Norton to Ralph, “I thought Rex likes to keep Jet fans in the dark about things like that…”

Give it up while you’re ahead, GaryC, there are obviously other important players on a football team but the reason Brady will probably be in the SB again and maybe win it this yr and Ponder won’t is because what Brady does is a heck of a lot more important to today’s O’s than what Peterson does.

Tom these guys try to equate WHAT WORKS IN HS (BALL CONTROL PLAYING D )TO THE NFL AND ITS LAUGHABLE.Today TO PLAY 80S STYLE FOOTBALL will get you a 6-10 record (2012 JETS )With the rules changes theres not a defence out there thats going to shut down a MANNING OR BRADY CONSISTANTLY ENOUGH TO WIN A SP (never remotely going to happen )A d like PITTSBURGH might stop them one week IN THE LONG HAUL NO WAY. Tom (as wehave preached for years )the only way to win is match them point for point =HAVE THE ABILITY TO SCORE 30 PLUS POINTS A GAME

It really is astounding to me, Joe, though GaryC is hardly one of the worst offenders. In fact, he’s usually ahead of the curve on the Jets’ mistakes, so I think he’s just having some fun with ya. But there’s no doubt, until the Jets as an org decide that they won’t rest until there’s a Brady-type on this team, it’s really not worth talking seriously about. The idea that anyone even cares what Rex thinks makes me laugh, most other teams woulda fired him last yr.

I remember your posts on Schotty, Joe, and I remember saying that while I thought Schotty was a mediocre, over-intellectualized OC at best and a complete fraud at worst, firing him would at least make it easier to see if he was hampering Sanchez’s progress or not. Since Sanchez got much worse this year, I guess Schotty’s off the hook on that one…

Gary than said Fox took the Panthers to the Super Bowl with Jake Delhome. I also would like to add Fox took the Broncos to the 2nd round of the playoffs with Tim Tebow as his starting QB running a high school O. Sorry JOE CAPS wrong like always. Fox is a good coach!
