S.C.Joe, I would only consider a T.E if we trade down mabey with ST.Louis who has two picks in Rd.1.(#16& 22.) I would love an OLB @#16 Like Deon Jordan 6-6 250 from Oregon & an O.L like G, Jon Cooper 6-3 310 from N.Carolina or Eric Fischer 6-7 315 C.Mich. at #22.With the 8th pick in Rd.2 we might still be able to get a T.E. like Eifert. The thing is Takeing an O.Linmen at #9 is tough as we are paying Brick & Mangold alot already. How much cap space can you tie up on O.L?There are no Q.B's unless you love Geno Smith worth the #9 pick. Unlike others here I dont see anybody looking to take guys like Sanchez or Tebow off our hands & offer us picks.Other than Cro or Revis we have no tradeable players. We need to let Keller, Moore,Pace,Thomas &-

Gary/Ron, can't believe you guys are even thinking about a TE in the first OR second round. If things would have remained status quo, I could have envisioned Tannenbaum doing that, but not a competent GM, and rightfully so, not with the other more glaring needs.
GARY C, It looks like the Rams have 2 1st.Rd picks. #16 & 22. With those picks we could get Ertz plus one of the OLB passrushers I mentioned to Frank and then with the 8th pick in Rd 2 we could get M.Ball. Every Moc I've seen has Ball going in the mid 3rd so if thats truley where he goes with could use that 2nd rd pick on one of the o-lineman and still get Ball early in the 3rd. How awsome would that be?
Of course if Rex is really in charge we will draft 7 guys on defence? I'm seeing a lot of people here thinking we can trade Sanchez & Tebow for picks? Personally I would love that but I cant imagine any team dumb enough to want either of them?Unless Karan gets a G.M job some place?

To all my friends on here, life just got complicated. Went through a terrible engagement, blah blah.. The first order of business should be to cut Sanchez. I think with a new GM, new offense, the Jets need to get rid of their biggest problem. I also would like to know where Braylon Edwards stands. Two big, physical WR's like Holmes and him would be amazing with a 4.3ish guy like Hill in the slot. Imagine the possibilities. Mcknight is just a kick returner. I am sold on that. Kerley can return punts. Also, I think Powell has shown enough flash to warrant Greene on the trading block. Bell needs to be cut. Haven't seen the film on college prospects but S is still a need. Go Jets

ronbo, could not agree with you more about trading down, especially with the influx of additional juniors entering the draft,at this point there would be a chance of getting both Ertz and Ball for the offense, and do a sign and trade of Keller.

JET BLUE, I literally couldn't sleep last night after watching that press conference. Every single media outlet from ESPN,SNY,WFAN,all the N.Y papers, everyone is saying the same thing, Is Woody Johnson completely out of his mind? Yiiiiikkkkes!
GARY C, you make a great point about L.T being the most important spot on the line. But as you also said Joeckel will be long gone by the 9th pick. Dont get me wrong, I respect your opinion and if our roster was as good as N.E,Balt,Seattle or any of the upper eschellon teams I would grab a great O.T in a second! I havn't checked yet but if a team has 2 ist rd picks in this draft I would strongly consider tradeing down. There are probably 45 to 50 players who will be considered by teams in the 1st rd.

RonBo: YIKES is an understatement, but I feel ya. If the Woodman truely believes that Rex has any answers, there is not enough therapy in this complex world to help him get it figured out. Maybe if Jet fans boycot the games??? An empty stadium should send a message. Looks like we're all in for another long off-season of Rex blabbering about his delusional beliefs. This is painful.

Gary, I would like to think that you were not serious about that SEC-AFC West comparison, but of course didn't know for sure. Thing is, I heard someone else make a similar remark recently. Then again, in my lifetime I remember a college all star team beating the NFL Champion, think it was late 50s or early 60s,when those games were played, do you remember that?

Gary, I don't know if this will answer your question, but I try to differentiate between “elite” QBs, who are few and far between in any decade and “quality” QBs. I think we have all overused the term “elite” I also believe you underestimate the importance of a “quality” QB. You talk about great running games, but look at the Vikings this past weekend, they had 176 yards rushing in their game, but they will all be home next week watching Rodgers (who happens to be one of those few “elite” QBs of this decade) moving on in the playoff’s.

Ron, I agree that at #9 you stay away from a QB. The field this year is pretty strong, and by that I don't mean full of potential 1 st rounder’s, I mean potential 2nd and 3rd rounder’s. The other thing is that they are all pretty much clones of one another, at 6'4" 225-230 LBs. It will be a crap shoot like no other, that is why the new GM and the scouting dept have to do their home work. As for that Sanchez remark? That was more sarcasm, Honestly, I don't see him starting in 2013, also I don't see them getting the top overall pick in the 2014 draft. I do think that Clowney will go # 1 overall no matter who picks, barring major injury of course.

SINCE SHEA, Like you I want Teddy Bridgewater, and believe me, if he was eliagable he would be the 1st Q.B picked even in front of Geno Smith. I have checked every web site and he is a "true Soph. which means he did not red-shirt.

Ronbo 19 - Yes, Exactly my point in regards to this years QB draft class!
Drafting any QB is a crap-shoot so rather than gamble all our chips on one player, like we did with Sanchez, lets draft one every year or two.
If you trade up and over-reach for a guy - it sets you back for years!

There was a post above about us cutting Bartt Scott, Calvin Pace, Jason Smith & Eric Smith to generate $30,000,000 in cap space. That is great but we are $20,000,000 over the cap so that leaves us with $10,000,000 to which is barley enough to sign back our own free agents IF we even have enough money to do that!

WOW. Rex is Woody's man. Thats sounds scary. Dont worry, its a smokescreen. Woody cannot come out wishy washy and broadcast that Rex is a lame duck. No idea of how to run offense or a complete team for that matter. Guys on this blog knowing more about OL blocking schemes and what works etc? Rex now going to call the defensive signals along with Thurman, the new DC? He apparantly did that with Pettine the first two years and let Schotty run offense. Rex will still be picking in the draft? Stay tuned. This is not over.

As Randy is probably writeing the new Blog concerning the Jets press conference today with Woody & Rex (which announced the official fireing of Sparano, cavanaugh and the iminent departure of Mike Pettine to Buffalo I hope this post does not get buried when the new one becomes available. According to the Pope of all sports Popes Mike Francessa, apparently Woody stated that rex will have input into who the Jets hire as the new G.M? If this is true, would Rex not be the man with the power? That is certianly the way Francesa is spinning it!Mabey Ira is right,Cohen could be promoted to take Tanneny's place?
I couldn't watch all the presser before I left for work, what stood out:
Woody is still strongly in Rex's corner (delusional)
Rex stated that he made the decision on firing Sparano (more dysfuction and another sign the FO is screwed up. I'm glad Sparano and Cavanaugh are gone but, any other org' would have gotten the GM in place and then made these decisions).
Rex said he thought his biggest failure was not creating a team that represented his personality enough, especially the offense! WOW! What does a Rex Ryan offense look like. Does he know?
Even though we all wanted news, the truth is that w/o a GM in place nothing could really be learned from Woody/Rex.
64 is right, Woody is not the guy to lead us to Lomabardi, clueless.

As long as Ryan is in the ear of the New GM NYJ will be back right where they ended. A GM has to build HIS team...with HIS coaches and HIS players. If Gamble is GM the only hope is he will get Alex Smith over here somehow.....then the glimmer of hope will flicker...I pray that NYJ cap situation isn't as bad as projected.

S.C.JOE, As you are usually right its getting boreing to keep posting that again, you are correct concerning Clowney being the best player in college football. It will be interesting to see if he can unseat "Johnny Football" for next years Heisman. Now, a question to ponder... As Rex is apparently coming back, with a new O.C, Q.B coach D-cordinator Spec. Teams coach, plus who knows what else? Its quite possable with Sanchez also likely back as the starter, that we could be tha absoloute worst team next year So, if that were to happan, and we have the #1 pick next year, do we pick Clowney, Johnny football or which ever Q.B emerges as the best of the bunch?
BYRDMAN Zack Dysert is looking like a 3rd rd. guy at this point. That could change as the Senior Bowl and combine are the two big events yet to be played. Dysert is in the group that includes Tyler Bray, Mike Glennon,Landy Jones,E.J.Manuel and Ryan Nassib. My guess is a couple of these guys will emerge and wind up going as early as late 1st to mid 2nd rd as teams seem more inclined to reach for guys at the Q.B posisition? i dont know anything you dont know as to how good any of them will turn out to be. My opinions are based solely on what I have personally seen or read. I am not an expert by any means.
But isn't it interesting how two teams running ols school offences were in the national championship game?

The SEC really has NFL ready guys. How great did the Bama OL do? And the two RB's? The center won three awards at three different OL positions, RG, LT C. One of the reasons that I am not high on Tyler Bray is that he does lousy against top competition like SEC schools. Too many picks. I like his size but thats about it. This kid Bridgewater is eligible to come out this year. Yes, he could use another year in school but if he does, he could be the steal in the second or third round after the popular picks go before him. Add 2 strong OL to our starting mix, a big TE along with a cheap resigned Keller, re-sign Landry and/or Bell to play w Revis and get Bridgewater? We can do this with $30mil CAP savings from 2 Smiths, Pace and Scott departures

S.C.Joe, Tyler Bray has alredy declared last week. And I agree 100% about this int's being a problem. And yes he is a 2nd rd. guy no doubt(mabey even 3rd?) Anyway, no way I want him at #9 as there are several OLB passrushers i would prefer at that posisition. I really believe we can get our future Q.B next year as that class is extremely talented and deep. There are actually 9 redshirt frosh(which makes them technically sophs for draft purposes) who will be eliagable for next years draft. You can add the kid from USC(Wittik 6-4 250 and the kid Bo Wallace from ole Miss. too 6-5 225 plus a lot of people like Jeff Driskel 6-3 237 from Fl. as well.

GARY C, Sorry dude, your wrong on this one. Look at the mess the Dolphins have now with Jake Long. They spent the 2nd pick in the 08 draft on him & now they either have to pay him 12 mill or loose him as a f/a. Parcells always said you just cant afford to draft O-linemen early 1st rd. as no matter how good they are they only comprise one 5th of your line. You are better off with 5 good guys vs. one stud & 4 bumbs. The salary cap simply doesn't allow the luxury of tieing up that kind of money. Plus, what if the guy gets hurt or is a bust like Ducasse? I will be really upset if we go O-line at #9!!!! There are simply too many difference makers available to go that way!

Post Card from Rex: Hey Jet Fans, how's the blogging going? Wish you were here soaking up the rays with me. Ya'know, obviously, the sun here in the Bahamas gives us the best chance to get a tan. I'm heading out to for a quick 18 with Mark later. His scores aren't that great. Obviously, ya'know, if he eliminates the mistakes I think he can break par. He just has to play better. I believe that he can win the Masters this year. You may all think I'm crazy but I really believe that he can win. Well, hope you guys are enjoying the playoffs. Sorry the team didn't get there this year, but, ya'know, obviously, we're going to win all our games next year. As long as I'm the head coach and Mark is the QB....Blah blah blah....

SCJoe, That is why MR.T 100% had to go it was not just his bad drafts. But he was supposed to be a "contract guy" meanwhile he was handing out bad contracts (Sanchez & Holmes) like they were lolipops. That this team is in bad shape because of these contracts. Also this guy was supposed to be a salary cap guy & our salary cap is a mess. Even with the major cuts of Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, Jason Smith & Eric Smith. We will barley be able to sign our own free agemts & no others. I was looking at jetscap.com & unless I misinterperted it. It look REAL BAD!
