CHICAGO BOB, correct, as Tx A&M O.T Matthews & T.Lewan from Michigan stayed in school the O.T posisition has suddenly increased in importance. That being the case I have read where the Rams may want to move up to get one of the better O.T's. As there is a good chance one will still be there at #9 this trade is very possible. Is it probable??? Bye the way, apparently D.Moore has been given a clean bill of health and he is a top 5 pick in every moc I have seen. As for Idzik, as S.C.Joe says, lets give it time. If he has a plan to bring in a premier talent evaluator mabey this can work. We certianly need cap help.I am more concerned about our new O.C, Marty Morninway.Lets just hpe he doesn't bring Vic with him.

I'm sure Randy will begin a new thread on Idzik, but for those who may turn here:

"oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations"

This what the Seahawks say are Idzik's duties w the team, I hope he's great for us, but notice where evaluation shows up on his list of duties.

Ronbo19: I agree with you 100% on the lack of playmakers on "O". We need a RB that can actually break a run longer than 20 yards & receivers that can get open and make plays. I understand drafting an OL is not going to get much fanfare - my concern is this team is limited on talent and cannot afford to blow this pick. We have so many holes & don't have the luxury of drafting a 4 star player when a 5 star is available - the good teams take that approach and we need to adopt that as well. I am big on Warmack because he does fill a need plus I remember what the addition of Steve Hutchinson did to the Vikings and Seahawks OL's when he arrived - and he's rated higher. Why not go with the best available - especially one
who is rated this high?

Ronbo19: If the Jets could get those two picks from the Rams for their #9, I would consider flying out to New Jersey for the first home game and during player introductions, bring the art of streaking back to life. My guess is the Rams would want more than the Jets #1 (probably their #3 as well) however that would be an incredible deal (if used wisely) for the Jets. Unfortunately I keep hearing that the Rams want to use their first 1st rounder on an OL (Warmack's name comes up a lot) to protect Bradford and then go with either a receiver or a DB with the 2nd pick. However that is the kind of drafting philosophy we need our next GM to have - see if you can stop by Jets headquarters and get them thinking the same way.

CHICAGO BOB, S.C.Joe & I were going back & forth and we thought a good trade to try might be our pick@#9 for the Rams 2 picks at 16 &22. That way we could get our pass rusher & O.L. What I was trying to say yesterday was that the rookie salaries are slotted by what number the player is picked at. So the 22 pick will get less than the #9 pick. By picking at #16 & 22 the total cost would be close to what the #9 pick will be payed. So lets hope the Rams are interested in a player at #9 and mabey we get lucky? Hey, at least Tanney wont be makeing the pick.Hopefully, Rex isn't either?

CHICAGO BOB, in a round-about-way you just echoed what I have been advocateing for a while here. No way I take Cooper or any other O.Linemen at #9. The financial ramifications of that are are not the only rason(although in our cas valid!) When you have a roster as devoid of playmakers as we have takeing an O.L is a luxury we simply cant afford. What good is it to open a big hole & have backs that are too slow to get through it?. Or, if you give the Q.B 5 or 6 seconds to throw & he still over or underthrows the reciever? If Jones medical condidtion scares off our medical people theres a kid Deon Jordan 6-6 250 from Oregon who may fit the bill? As I pointed out earlier, my preference would be to trade down & at that point O.L in cool.Less $.

I'm all for trading down and accumaulating picks. The problem is, who will be looking to trade up? There doesn't seem to be any consensus "must have" player out there. Of course, specific team needs will be a factor.

I think the longer this GM search goes on the more likely it's going to be Cohen. Truth is no wants to come here, so we're almost stuck w someone who already is here.

No one (the talking head experts) believe the Jets will be a viable player for any of the better QB FA's, where does that leave us? Draft a project in the lower rounds and watch "butt fumble" for another yr? I pray not.

especially at a position (OG) which is going to be a weakness for us. Slauson is most likely gone after they had him take a pay cut and Brandon Moore has 1-2 years left. This is one of the reasons Peyton Manning wanted nothing to do with the Jets - their OL. Warmack can play between Brick and Mangold and solidify the left side of the line for another 6-7 years. Otherwise, take the #9 pick, trade down, accumulate what you can in terms of draft choices and look for Warmack and if he isn't available, you take Cooper. We need depth desperately and the only way we are going to get it is to accumulate draft choices.

Ronbo19, first things first - the Jets cannot afford to take a shot at Jarvis Jones with the #9 pick. The kid has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, which is a narrowing of the spinal column (where nerves come thru at the bottom). This is a degenerative disease (my father has it) and it could cut his career short by many years. The Jets do not have the luxury of taking a chance on a player like that and miss. Cooper will not be around in round 2, he will be taken later round 1. The reason Brick and Mangold are being paid so much is due to Mr. T's inability to negotiate. The Jets cannot afford to blow this pick - why not use it on what people claim is the safest pick in the draft and someone who appears to have All-Pro written all over him

Scjoe- fair enough, I'm probably just tired of listening to Rex.I'm envious that you're retired! Ron- I wasn't make the case for taking OL, just pointing out that some are OK w using a high pick on one. I agree, OLB is our best bet. There are many good ones this year and we will probably be getting rid of Pace, Thomas and Scott from our LB corps. QB is a next yr deal.

I think I'll spend the rest of my visit here watching the Met Life Moment of Joe Willie throwing 6 TD's and almost 500 yds back in '72. Ahhh, to have a QB.

S.C.Joe, Yeah, I was just tweaking you a little with the 'head in the sand' line. I figured you'd get a kick out of that one! Chicago Bob, keep in mind we have the 8th pick in the 2nd rd. In a earlier post I mentioned Cooper plus another guy if he is gone Larry Warford from Kentucky. If we could get the OLB from Ga. in the first rd. plus Cooper or Warford in Rd.2 I think most knowledgable Jet fans would be thrilled. The #9 pick gets a lot of money & as I'm sure your aware Brick & Mangold are amongst the highest paid players at their posisitions.A pass rushing OLB like J.Jones would be a better use of the money as he would be more of an impact player. Shall we say more bang for our buck!

If the Jets aren't happy with their current OL coach and Mike Tice is available, grab him. Tice was the Bears OC last year and struggled however prior to that he was their OL coach and despite having little to work with, turned 5 nobodies into a fairly decent unit. With Mangold, Ferguson and someone like Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper a possible addition, we would have the makings of one of the better OL's in the league. As much as I would like to see us get an OLB who can put the opposing QB on his tail, I am a little tired of watching OUR QB's get knocked on their tail. You could probably trade down, grab an extra pick(s) and still get Warmack who many feel is not only the safest pick this year but the best OG since Steve Hutchinson

Tice was the Bears OC last year and struggled however prior to that he was their OL coach and despite having little to work with, turned 5 nobodies into a fairly decent unit. With Mangold, Ferguson and someone like Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper a possible addition, we would have the makings of one of the better OL’s in the league. As much as I would like to see us get an OLB who can put the opposing QB on his tail, I am a little tired of watching OUR QB’s get knocked on their tail. You could probably trade down, grab an extra pick(s) and still get Warmack who many feel is not only the safest pick this year but the best OG since Steve Hutchinson

S.C.Joe, No doubt you definately made your usual convincing arguments. You always do!I was just offering Klecko-Fan his due as he did make some equally valid points!(as he always does as well) S.C.from N.Y, great point about letteng Revis prove he is healthy. My only question is how much time he has remaining on his contract? If it expires after the 2013 season will not be able to get any compensations as he will walk as a free agent. If we trade him prior to this years draft we will probably have to settle for conditional picks in the 2014 draft based on how he performs this coming season. I dont see any teams offering us picks in this years draft as no one knows how much he will be able to contribute to this coming season?

Very interesting dialogue between klecko and scjoe but on balance I go with klecko because his clear-eyed view of corporate managerial strategy is simply too compelling. Indeed, one of the things that depresses me about Woody's Jets is that they seem increasingly ruled by Rex's blustery, purely emotional nonsense rather than anything resembling football sense, much less common sense. For Woody to even stand before the cameras during Rex's ludicrous "People aren't gonna want to play us" rap tells me that he not only has no clue, he has no self-respect. All in all, starting to rebuild IN TOTO this yr makes the most sense but Woody is clearly a guy with, as I've said, a really slow learning curve. That'll kill ya every time.

KLECKO FAN, Ahhh, that would be me. I dont debate the wisdom of drafting an O.linemen early. i just dont think we are in a posisition personell wise to do that now.As we will be paying Brick & Mangold a fortune for the forseeable future, and we currently have no O.G's on our roster as Slauson & Moore are free agents i dont think we are in a posisition cap wise to tie up a lot of money along the O-line? i was hopeing we could draft a linbacker like you mentioned in Rd.1 & then grab a guy like the kid from N.Carolina Jon Cooper 6-3 310, or Larry Warford 6-3 332 from Kentucky. There will be several R.B's like Montae Ball available in the 3rd Rd. I know a lot of us want a Q.B this year but if we wait till next year there will better choices.

Spicer, great question, excellent point. The answer? We DON"T know! What we do know is that Woody Johnson stated publicly that Mike Tannenbaum had the final say on ALL personnel decisions and that the next GM will as well. That confirms what I have been saying for the past 6 years. We heard the chatter about Ducasse, we heard the chatter about the S. Hill pick, think that is a coincidence?

Ron, I think kleckofan made some valid points, I think I countered with some valid points. Again, I am not a big fan of Ryan’s buffoon like persona, but until it translates to actual losses on the field who really cares? Rich Kottite was a gentleman’s gentleman, how did that work out? I honestly believe that there are those who put so much stock in to what the media writes and says that they become distracted from the issues at hand. If Ryan is fired and a competent HC is brought in and wins, I will be totally on board with that. If Ryan gets fired and “just another” recycled HC is brought in and gets similar results you will hear me loud and clear.

Spice-I said many times before that if game decisions are being made for Rex, by Woody or Tanny, then he should have had the backbone to say "It s my team, I'm the field general, if I can't play my guys (remember "gives us the best chance....) then I quit." This is not a feasible defense for Rex. Either he played the wrong guys on his own or he was a coward. I don't like my chances in the NFL w a coach under either circumstance; bad coach or wimp.
Sure, it's easy for me to say to quit, it's a million dollar job, but think about the long term implications. Does Rex do himself better by quitting because he can't coach his way or going down w decisions he didn't make? In the future, after he is fired, which guy would another team hire?

The problem w Rex making decisions other than those about the defense is he has shown a tolal lack of competence. He is not an evalautor of talent (see Sanchez, John Connor, the mishandling of Kerley early on etc), he knows nothing of Offense, do I have to support that statement? I name the players in regard to evaluation because these are players wher Rex said "these are my guys", Tanny may have liked them too, but Rex wanted them. What Rex should have been was a great motivator and defensive coach. After that HC duties are about managing. Apparently managing is not a strong point either. Woody has erred in giving Rex too much to do.
BTW, I am hip with the Cohen strategy; the year will be a waste. I wished they cleaned house this yr

Spicer, I commend you for considering the backstage politics that may've kept Sanchez on the field. But the problem with guys like Rex is, they never say what they really feel to anyone and never just let the chips fall, so they're always hard to believe in. Right now it's clear that the majority of the team doesn't believe in him because no team lays down like that two yrs in a row for a guy they DO believe in, so that's just another reason Rex should go coach high school, where the game might slow down a little for him. Ronbo, yeah, we all want a good Jet team but that's where the story starts, not where it ends. And some folks only want to luck out and win one SB, then drop dead. I wanna see a dynasty for years to come.

SPICER, Interesting theory but there is one glareing problem; Tannenbaum was as star struck with Rex as Woody is! Lets face it, Rex is clearly the "alpha dog " when it comes to the Jets. Although my buddy S.C.Joe insists on burrying his head in the sand regarding this topic, I know most here are well aware Rex has had a great deal of influence in the make up of this team! Now perhaps Tanney may have whispered a plea in Rex's ear concerning Ducasse or begged him to justify the ludicrous contract he gave Sanchez by continueing to play him, but I have little doubt Tanney is really the fall guy in this whole fiasco. And you know how tough that is for me to admit as I was one of the many Tanney bashers here. Not that he didn't deserve to go!

S.C.JOE, I just read your post to KLECKO FAN, and I gotta say, he makes a lot of great points! While your points concerning who replaces him & how much control he had in regards to the draft are certianly debateable, the fact is Rex is the symbol of all that is wrong with this franchise! When you go on T.V and make a lot of promoses as Rex has continuously done you basically paint a bullseye on yourself. When you fail to deliver on those promoses you basically look like a fool.
As I said earlier, i want a team I can root for and be proud to do so. How can anyone be proud of a team led by a circus ringmaster rather than a H.C? This team will lack credability as long as Rex is continues to play the fool!

Guys how do we know that Rex wanted to keep playing Sanchez? MR.T could have been telling him he had to play him to try to save his butt. We also heard storys about how the o line coach said he was being forced to play Ducasse. Why would Rex force his O line coach to play Ducasse unless it was coming from above Rex? MR.T ANYONE? I think MR.T forced Rex to play Sanchez & Ducasse to try to save his hide!

Kleckofan, the question for me becomes “how much” input does Rex actually have? Woody can say publicly that Rex will have input in the GM search, but the bigger question is how much input. I can’t imagine Woody Johnson giving Rex Ryan the majority of the say in the new GM hire, especially after he hired that consulting firm to handle the search. I think Rex’s input will be very minimal.Maybe a token amount. But for me, and I have said this before, it is not so much about Rex Ryan doing a bang up job as HC, it is about who replaces him? Where do you go from there? Is it feasible to go in a totally new direction again?

T64, Right there with you Bro!
If it was negative to complain about Tanney's poor draft & F/a's, call me negative!
If its negative to point out Sanchez's lack of accuracy, pocket presence, decision makeing & ball security- call me negative!
If its negative to point out Rex loosing his team 2 years in a row,or sticking with Sanchez in spite of his dismal play, call me negative!
But the bottom line is guys like you,S.C.Joe, Klecko Fan,Gary C, Spicer,Mike Jet Vet,Chicago Bob,BENNETT, Allan "O" and of course Ira & anyone else I missed all want the same thing; a team we can not only root for, but be proud of as well.Does that sound like our current Jets?

I'm with you on the alcohol, Chicago Bob, those margaritas on Friday night sure do help me deal with the Jets on Sunday.
SCjoe- you're right about the content of a Jets presser being meaningless, but you can't deny what was done in terms of admitting Rex would have a say in who was GM. There would be no strategic reason for Woody to say that, I believe it is true. So what concerns me about the presser is not so much specific statements, but more the whole delusional structure that continues. Rex is still telling us other teams will fear us, and Woody is still believing it.
As I said before, I was strong in Rex's corner (I have a signed picture staring at me in my office as I write) I wanted him to be the end of Same Old Jets and the 2 AFC's made it seem achievable. Reality is he doesn't have the goods.

Great call on Brady Joey D. I will give you some credit for putting a prediction out there publicly, albeit totally off base.
Who is the mediocre QB out of those left? Flacco? I don't love him, but look at his playoff stats; QB rating of like 120+.
Shame about the Seahawks, I was rooting for them as an example of a team doing all the things we are not: drafting speed and size, developing players, playing rookies in meaningful ways...
I would cut that Denver safety today. Fox didn't help by playing it conservatively either, you've got one of the best QB's in history and you don't take a shot at a first down to end the game?

CHICAGO BOB, Wow,you took the words right out of my mouth!I was thinking the very same thing. I would just name Cohen the interim G.M.and dump the whole lot of them after this coming disaster of a season. I know Ira & S.CJoe will want to win as many games a possible this coming season but unless we hire a true genious I cant see this team being anything but a 3 to 4 win team.I only hope we dont trade our draft picks away for stop-gap journeymen types in an effort to appease the PSL holding fans?

So now you and & are negative together?? Of course like you I prefer to think of us as proactive rather than complacent.

You can't help but wonder what goes on in the interviewing process with this team. The word is out that the Jets braintrust was very impressed with Jerry Angelo - the same Jerry Angelo that was run out of Chicago! The same Jerry Angelo that has not gotten one interview since being canned by the Bears! The same Jerry Angelo who might be the only GM with a worse drafting record than Tannenbaum! If no one of any quality wants this position, you might as well let Cohen run the show for one year and if things do not turn out, then you can fire everyone and start the process again. With this team no longer in salary cap hell in 2014 and a new coach needed, the position will now look more attractive. It's reasons like this God invented alcohol.

I don't care who hates Rex other than Jet fans, who have the right to hate or love anyone on the team they want, scjoe, but I've also never seen a HC motivate the opponent to play harder vs us. Rex will never stop doing that because his instinct is to talk instead of act, like with telling us how "dangerous" we're gonna be on O but not saying how. Hey JoeyDelusional, you trying to be funny? Yeah, Brady sure embarrassed himself today! Call the 4 QBs left standing now whatever you want but they shredded the "great D's" they faced and they're infinitely better than what you or Rex think it takes to even go deep into post-season. Oh yeah, and like I just posted on the story ahead of this one: Avg score for the 4 games was 39-31. Get real, dude!
